Google maps

To save your 3G/4G Data plan, Google Maps can provide you with offline pre-cached Maps that you can download from wifi network and keep it in your Android smartphone offline, For relatively small areas Google Maps provide a simple solution that will pre-cache your maps. The feature is hidden in the maps settings.

  • In Google Maps, Go to "Setting" then "Labs".
  • Check "Pre-cache map area".

Menu

  • Go back to your Map and tab on the place you want to cache.
  • Then scrool down and you will see "Pre-cache map area", It will be downloaded to your smartphone.

Maps

Note, that Google Maps will only pre-cache the 10-mile area around a certain point, so it's definitely not enough for big trips, but for city commutes might just do. You also don't get to zoom in as much as you would when using the maps online.
