T-Mobile Galaxy S II to have a 1.5Ghz dual-core Qualcomm CPU

14 September, 2011 Samsung

Mystery solved the- the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II was just confirmed to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, featuring a 1.5 GHz dual-core Scorpion processor. The news came from the Galaxy S support Twitter account, so the smart money is on it turning out true.

The chipset that powers the T-Mobile-bound Samsung Galaxy S IIhas been identified as Qualcomm APQ8060. Thats the board that you can find inside the HP TouchPad, except that this time its dual-core CPU is clocked much higher. Its main advantage over the Samsung Exynos platform is the faster network data it allows network downloads with up to 42 Mbps, compared to half of that on the Exynos.

The Exynos on the other hand has an edge in performance - the speedier CPU clock of the Snapdragon inside the T-Mobile Galaxy S II will probably negate the advantage of the Cortex-A9 cores, but the Adreno 220 GPU isn not quite a match for the Mali-400MP.
