Samsung DV400F

Samsung has announced the DV300F, a Wi-Fi compatible compact camera with its twin LCD "DualView" feature. The DV300F has a 5x, 25-125mm equiv, F2.5-6.3 stabilized zoom lens and a 16MP CCD sensor. It also features a 1.5-inch LCD on its front plate to allow easy self-portraits. Its stand-out feature, though, is its Wi-Fi capability, that allows it to be remotely controlled from an Android smartphone.

It can also automatically backup your images to your home computer via a Wi-Fi network, every time you walk into the house, or to a "cloud" service such as Microsoft SkyDrive or Samsung All Share Play, avoiding the need to remove the camera MicroSD card.

Apple to focus on iBooks

It confirmed, Apple will hold a media event at the end of January in the big Apple.

It is unlikely that an iPad version will make its way to the masses so early and the event will not include any iTVs or any kind of hardware at all, which leaves software most likely iBooks, iAds and the likes.

Allegedly the focus in the event will be some improvements to the iBooks platform, which will be important but not groundbreaking.

GTA III for Android

If you grabbed the iOS or Android version of the new game app Grand Theft Auto III you will appreciate this new. The game launched in the middle of last month and can be downloaded right now. Kotaku reports that the game will work with the PC mods that added new content (e.g. new cars) to the original computer game back in the day.

The iOS version may be tough to mod, but apparently, Android users have an easy time modding away. All the Android user needs to do is access the Android/Data/com.rockstar.gta3/files/GTA3 directory. IOS users will need to be jailbroken apparently.

ChevronWP7 Labs (Making WP7 jailbreak) will be coming to an end as soon as those remaining tokens sell out. This was (and still is) the onlysanctioned unlocking tool outside of Microsoft 99 USD AppHub and was to serve as the gateway to a large homebrew community. Not to mention allowing new devs without the hundred bucks to play around before committing to the platform.

ChevronWP7 Labs statements :

"ChevronWP7 Labs enters the New Year with 10,000 token sales under our belt. Hooah! Nearly 90% of the tokens we've sold have been used to successfully unlock a Windows Phone thus far.

Our agreement with Microsoft was to sell no more than 10,000 tokens. Our team doesn't currently have plans to renegotiate this number, although it's a matter we're still discussing."

Samsung Italy expanded on that explaining that software will not be available before March, so not exactly nailing a date down, but providing a new deadline with which patient users will have to wait for.

Siri For Android

When the Apple iPhone 4S was introduced to the world, with it came a re-introduction of Siri, an until-then third-party app that used an above-average voice recognition system to do commands and actions now the Android Market has "Siri for Android" but it is not quite what you might think. Instead of an "Official App" as it jokingly suggests that it is with its developer name, it is just a shortcut to what all Android devices version 2.2 and forward have working on them natively: Google Voice Actions.

Siri

Between 1,000 and 5,000 people have already downloaded this application, it just added this week in an effort to educate the masses on what Android has been capable of doing for over a year now. This app was not produced by Google but its a good tool and a good idea.

Sadly, Google has pulled the Application off the Android Market after 5,000 Download.

Although it is good that Microsoft has found a fix for the bug in Windows Phone devices, the exploit may also affect its other applications. So far it is known to work not only through SMS messages but also through Facebook chat or Windows Live Messenger.

iOS and Android

Kevin Rivette, the managing partner at intellectual property firm 3LP Advisors LLC, shared his professional opinion on the ongoing legal wars in the smartphone world. In a chat with Bloomberg, the expert revealed that he believes Apple could be earning some good money if it was to stop with all the court action and instead concentrate on licensing.

Rivette believes that the Cupertino-based company owns patents that could secure it as much as $10 for every Android device sold if it licensed them. That is twice the amount Microsoft receives from their current licensing contracts with Android manufacturers.

Yet, Apple does not seem interested in renting out its technology and prefers to try and ban as many Android products as possible from as many markets as it could manage. And while a potential triumph in this crusade will certainly bring in lots and lots of cash, it seems highly unlikely that it will ever be achieved.

Nokia, Samsung, LG and Motorola have already built plants in Argentina, so they all escape the recent Government ban.

Apple and RIM though are not so lucky. Their only option is to build a factory in Argentina. RIM is already looking for a partner to do so, while we do not have any info on Appleplans.

iPhone5 Mock-up

BGR has just reported that Apple is possibly debuting a completely redesigned iPhone in the fall of 2012, following the trend first set by the iPhone 4S, of new Apple products being launched later in the year, instead of mid-year releases. According to the report, the new iPhone will incorporate an aluminum back panel rather than the glass found on the current iPhone models, the iPhone 4 and 4S.

BGR report:

We have also learned that Apple is planning to use a rubber or plastic material — similar to the material used in the company’s bumper cases — that will be built into the new iPhone case. In all likelihood, this material will be used as a bezel surrounding the front edge of the phone (like the iPhone 3GS bezel) and it will serve two purposes. First, it will join the glass iPhone face with a new aluminum back plate. It will also cover a redesigned antenna system that surrounds the device, allowing Apple to build the rear case out of aluminum without having to use a large plastic insert above the antennas as the company does on its iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G.

In related news, we are hearing the Galaxy S 3D is coming as well. When you think about it this also makes sense with Samsung being the only major handset maker without a 3D Android smartphone LG has its Optimus 3D and HTC Evo 3D.

"He said experiencing frustration is an unavoidable the process, just like Acer encountering troubles when it entered the notebook market."

Acer has clarified the rumor by stating that Acer has no plans to quit the tablet PC and smartphone business operations or downsize related personnel but will made optimal adjustments to decrease the number of product models for selective and strategic input of operational resources. If the adjustments lead to success, Acer will expand tablet PC and smartphone business operations, the company said.

A newly leaked Windows Phone roadmap has surfaced that gives a rough time frame for the launch for the coming versions of the OS. According to the roadmap the expected Tango flavor of WinPo for lower end devices will be launching in Q2 2012. The roadmap is supposedly up to date as of October 2011. That is a few months back now and things change quickly in the tech world.

Take these dates with a grain of salt. The roadmap also shows that Windows Phone Apollo will be launching in Q4 of 2012. Apollo is the update for the OS that is supposed to make the devices running Windows Phone more suitable for business users. Apollo is also said to be the code name for Windows Phone 8.

Galaxy S I9000

Bad News... then Good NEWS ... then Bad News Again, It seems that Samsung will stand by its original decision for the Galaxy S after all. However, there will be a slight change as Samsung will be providing a Value Pack Update (VPU) to Galaxy S I9000 users instead of the Android ICS 4.0 update.

Although the phone will stay at Android Gingerbread 2.3, the Value Pack Update (VPU) will bring the experience as close as Ice Cream Sandwich and in the same time will keep the device running TouchWiz very smoothly and bring an experience as close as Ice Cream Sandwhich. The VPU will start Rolling-out during the Q1,2012

The Value Pack Update (VPU) will Include:

  • Improved Web Browser Experience
  • Improved Multi-tasking
  • Smoother User Interface (UI) look close to the ICS
  • New Widgets to increase productivity
  • Performance Enhancements & Bug Fixes

Samsung earlier this month adopted a similar strategy for its Wave 525 and Wave 533 devices. Instead of offering bada 2.0 to both the devices, Samsung promised to provide a Value Pack upgrade which tries to offer the "same bada 2.0 user experience and service as much as possible despite the hardware limitations."

While many Android tablets are soon to be offered with quad-core configurations, we are still wondering if and when handsets will get over the dual-core hump. Meizu is the first to make public plans to release a quad-core device. It will be an upgraded version of their beautiful Meizu MX.

Other than its quad-core specification there is not much know about the device at this time except a launch window May 2012. Thats a decade from now in the world of technology but it is a timeline we expected for the first quad-core enabled devices to, at the very least, be announced.

Samsung Galaxy S III in leaked press images and details. The story goes like this: Concept Phones, a blog that specializes in conceptual renderings of devices, has intercepted a couple of images and some details sent in from a fellow by the name of Ivan Ilchenko who reported them appearing on Samsung official page on a Russian social network by the name of Vkontakte.

This device is being called the Samsung GT-I9500 Universal, and its details are rather incredulous. While the renderings appear really quite crisp and certainly in line with what we’ve seen from Samsung lately, specifically with the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Players, the magic inside might be too far-fetched to be realistic. Behind a 5-inch HD Super AMOLED 1280 x 720 pixel resolution display you will find a 9mm thick body and a 12 megapixel camera on the back with both LED flash AND Xenon flash.

Galaxy S III

Then there is a front-facing 2 megapixel camera, availability of 32 or 64 GB internal memory, and a microSDXC slot for memory expansion. This device is said to come with a stylus like the Galaxy Note, but does not appear to have the same onboard slot for carrying said pen like its big cousin does, USB 3.0 capability, and 4G LTE connectivity in its first iteration. Also onboard is a quad-core Samsung Exynos 4412 1.5GHz processor, and the whole thing works with TouchWiz 5.0.

Samsung suddenly Announce that it will Cancel the Android ICS 4.0 Upgrade for the Samsung Galaxy S and Original Galaxy Tab, even if the Nexus S is similar to the Galaxy S. but the Question is Why ?????

Samsung Galaxy Tab Original

Samsung Answer to this Question!

Samsung has now justified why it cannot give the Ice Cream Sandwich update on both the devices. Galaxy S maybe similar to the Nexus S but Samsung says that "the smartphone and the Galaxy Tab run Samsung specific elements like TouchWiz UI, video calls, Samsung widgets, carrier and country customizations that makes difficult to run the new OS smoothly. The RAM and ROM storage are also an issue", Samsung said.

We are terriblly Sorry for all Galaxy S users who won't be able to get the ICS Official Update, your only chance is to root your Devices and get some ICS tweaked ROMs

Intel

Intel has revealed its latest Medfield smartphone and tablet reference designs, the path-laying hardware the chip company hopes will persuade manufacturers to adopt its x86 mobile chip rather than stick withARM.

The two devices the phone running Gingerbread and the tablet running Ice Cream Sandwich were demonstrated to MIT Technology Review, though only a render of the handset has been released. Still, initial impressions from Intel first SoC seem positive.

Unlike previous Intel chips, Medfield pulls all of the core processing tasks onto a single chip. This so-called System-on-Chip (SoC) design mimics the design strategy of ARM licensees like NVIDIA, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments, which have been far more successful in getting their silicon in mobile devices than Intel has managed. Part of the benefit of a SoC design is battery frugality, something traditional Intel mobile processors have generally struggled with.

The multiple recipient texting also has contact autocomplete. The app now has spiny integration support to send all calls to the native dialer when integrated with Sprint. The text field now has multiple lines and character counting. The app also gets single touch copy/paste as well.

The first HTC Sense-d Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM broke cover, folks. Thanks to the effort of a team of developers over at XDA, we now have a chance to see what changes are coming to the HTC devices, which are bound for upgrade. In this particular case, the ROM has been flashed to an HTC Sensation.

Kindle Fire

The Amazon Kindle Fire gets listed in the same column as the rest of the Android tablets, but it is worth remembering that it is a highly customized version of Android and works differently than the rest. Take the silent auto-updates for example the Fire will install the latest available firmware version 6.2.1 without asking, which will break root and make the tablet immune to SuperOneClick rooting.

The update does bring several goodies, the most valuable of which is probably the ability to remove items from the homescreen carousel. The update also improves scrolling performance and adds the option to lock Wi-Fi access with a password.

As for geeks who want to keep their root, make sure you do not connect to a Wi-Fi network or the Kindle Fire will fetch and install the update in the background.

Samsung Galaxy Note

The Samsung Galaxy Note is the 5.3-inch giant monster phone equipped with its own S Pen for scribbling your ideas and it is black. Some will love for its size, others will find it too big, but few will complain about it getting a white version and that is exactly what Samsung has released in its home market of South Korea. The Galaxy Note in Korea also boasts LTE connectivity.

Interestingly, it seems that it is becoming a habit for Samsung to release its high-end devices in white not immediately, but when some time passes after their launch. The white Galaxy Note is the exact same handset except for the color.

Apple acquisition of flash memory specialist Anobit has apparently been finalized, reports from Israel suggest, with the NAND controller company tech used to boost capacity, performance and reliability of storage in future smartphones, tablets and notebooks. Initially rumored earlier this month, the Anobit buy has now gone through for roughly $400-500m Calcalist reports.

Although neither company has yet officially confirmed the deal, Israel Prime Minister seems to have decided it is all legitimate enough to comment. "Welcome to Israel, Apple Inc. on your 1st acquisition here" the official Twitter feed said earlier today, "I am certain that you will benefit from the fruit of the Israeli knowledge."

iOS

Microsoft has released two new apps for the iOS platform, Microsoft Lync 2010 for iPhone and Lync 2010 for iPad, targeted at enterprise users with an Apple gadget in their pocket or bag. Both free downloads though requiring a Lync Server or Office365/Lync Online account in order to actually function the two apps offer instant messaging, audio conferencing and VoIP calls while on the move.

Real-time availability updates are given, as well as single-touch Lync conference call participation to avoid having to punch in lengthy passcodes. There is also transport layer security (TLS) and perimeter/internal network protection, neither of which demand a VPN, for increased data security.
