Chrome

If you are a fan of the Google Chrome browser you will appreciate this. Chrome is said to be getting an update that will add some new support to make gaming on the browser more fun. The browser will be getting support for gamepads. The tip comes from Paul Kinlan, the Google developer advocate. Kinlan made the statement at Develop Liverpool.

The update is set to land in Q1 2012 and will bring with it not only support for gamepads, but a couple other tricks as well. The update will allow Chrome to support cameras and microphones without needing plug-ins for them to operate. Kinlan apparently hinted that the games for Chrome might also get augmented reality and player tracking.

Galaxy S II

US, Europe and Australia may be one of the lucky countries to get LTE but there are still a lot left that are bereft of this amazing new technology and one of them, surprisingly, is Japan, one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world.

But that is about to change now as Japan NTT DoCoMo has launched the Samsung Galaxy S II LTEin the country, which will be the first phone to be officially launched with LTE on-board. Although NTT DoCoMo did have LTE network in the country since last year, they did not actually have any devices that would make use of it till now.

The Galaxy S II LTE will fetch an effective price of ¥20,000 (about $260) with a two-year contract.

The Adv. shows that the LTE packing smartphone will sell for 199.99 USD. That would put it at the same price as the iPhone.

The Korean company latest Galaxy S II promo is loaded up with some cutting anti-iPhone smack talk, spanning everything from the perceived fickle nature of iPhone buyers to the Apple phone shortcomings on the 4G and screen size fronts.

It is the most unabashed expression yet of the growing disharmony between the two companies. Well, this and the litany of patent disputes they are now fighting all across the globe.

Although Apple has always been known for its close involvement with suppliers, the Sharp deal is said to escalate that collaboration to new levels. Apple has supposedly bought its own manufacturing equipment using its hefty reserves of cash to cover hardware supposedly priced between $500m and $1bn and will begin producing iPhone and iPad displays with exclusive space in one of Sharp facilities imminently.

There is no huge difference, but as the side-by-side shots above indicate it does make for a different profile for the two devices. The LTE model lacks the distinctive curve down to the speaker bulge on the lower rear of the phone, and ends up looking less like an arch in the process.

Nokia lumia

Nokia has promised a pair of firmware updates for its Lumia 800 smartphone, addressing battery life, power efficiency and charging performance of the Windows Phone handset. The news comes amid numerous complaints in Nokia support forums regarding underwhelming battery life, with some experiencing less than a day normal use before they needed to recharge.

The Finnish company insists that most Lumia 800 owners are having no power problems whatsoever, but concedes that there are a few problem handsets out there. A first software update, expected in early December, will include improvements to power efficiency therefore, with a subsequent update planned for early January 2012 introduces further enhancements to battery life and battery charging.

Nokia official Press release

"We understand that some people have expressed concerns about battery life on the Nokia Lumia 800.  Early investigations show that most people are enjoying the full Nokia Lumia experience without any problems and we have not been able to identify a single root cause that would lead to erratic battery behavior at this stage.  A software update in early December will make some improvements to power efficiency, while a second update in early January introduces high voltage charging, increasing the Nokia Lumia 800’s battery power from 1300mAh to 1450mAh. These are scheduled improvements and will enhance the overall experience, but are not designed to address any issues that may be occurring with individual products.  We recommend that anyone who has concerns contact local Nokia care representatives at their earliest convenience."

However, developer Steve Troughton-Smith tells us that the retailer he ordered a Galaxy Nexus from warned him today that Samsung had stopped shipments, with deliveries only expected to resume when the volume bug was addressed. The US Patent and Trademark Office last week opened a new exhibit honoring Steve Jobs at its museum in Alexandria, Virginia. Located in the atrium of the office Madison Building headquarters, the free museum offers interactive exhibits, a portrait gallery and a theater.

The Steve Jobs exhibit consists of 30 giant iPhone-like display panels, most of which display the front pages from over 300 patent and trademark filings that bear Jobs name as inventor or co-inventor. The remaining panels offer a brief description of the exhibit and photos of Jobs.

"This exhibit commemorates the far-reaching impact of Steve Jobs entrepreneurship and innovation on our daily lives," said Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO David Kappos. "His patents and trademarks provide a striking example of the importance intellectual property plays in the global marketplace."

Located in the atrium of the Madison Building, the exhibit features more than 300 of the patents that bear the name of the iconic innovator along with many of the trademarks that have given Apple its instantly recognizable identity around the world. The display gives insight into the visionary commitment Jobs gave to each of the products and designs he influenced during his time with Apple, the company he co-founded at the age of 21 with his friend and fellow computer enthusiast Steve Wozniak.

The Steve Jobs exhibit at the USPTO Museum runs through January 15, 2012.

Windows 8 installation

The Windows installation process either frustrates people because they know it will take a lot of time or intimidates them with the complexity of the procedure. Microsoft are redesigning the process for their upcoming Windows 8 OS to deal with both problems.

Windows 8 installation

You can still do an advanced setup, which will let give you the most control over how the OS is installed, or you can do a streamlined setup, which is started by simply running an .EXE file or via web delivery.

Upgrading fro Windows 7

As far as web delivery goes, that would be the simplest method you do not need to go out and buy a box with DVDs, you just start the installation process at home and everything needed will be fetched over the Internet. That includes the license key too, so you do not have to manually type it in.

The Update install procedure for Windows 7 took you through 4 different tools to check if your computer and installed apps will continue working plus making sure your personal files make it through the install. With Windows 8, a single tool will do all the work including downloading the Windows 8 files. After the download you can just let the tool install the new OS update or create an installation DVD or thumb drive.

You can transfer these…    When upgrading from…
Windows 7 Windows Vista Windows XP
Applications x
Windows settings x x
User accounts and files x x x

In Windows 7, the files and settings to be preserved across the upgrade were calculated while the previous OS was still running. The registry values and data collected by our upgrade logic were also gathered while running on the old OS. The content of the files was then gathered offline during the Windows Pre-Installation Environment phase in order to avoid file-in-use issues.

windows 8

Most of this work has been removed in Windows 8. The gather rules no longer run during upgrade. instead, we just move the following folders into Windows.old when the PC is offline:

  • Windows
  • Program files
  • Program files (x86)
  • Users

Rated apps

The CTIA and ESRB announced that they will be introducing a ratings systems for mobile apps and this will be revealed near the end of the month.

We will learn more about what this entails when the ratings system is unveiled Nov. 29 but it will be interesting to see what this will require. For those who do not know, the ESRB is the group which provides the ratings systems for video games and software. This ratings system, along with the one for the movies, is self-policing and is aimed at not letting the government nose itself in the industry.

Seeing as there will be a few politicians speaking at this event, I am guessing this move to rate apps has similar motivations.

iPad3

Apple iPad 3 will gain a little weight to accommodate a higher-resolution display, sources claim, while the iPhone 5 will grow almost a centimeter in length so as to fit in a 4-inch screen for 2012. Whereas previous leaks tipped a teardrop-profile next-gen iPhone as Apple "significant redesign" that concept is believed to be a victim of LTE battery requirements, iLounge trusted insider suggests. Instead, the new iPhone 5 will have a metal casing and be 8mm longer than the current model, on course for a release in summer next year.

As for the third-gen iPad, Apple insistence on using a higher-resolution display than the current 1024 x 768 has supposedly had an impact on the design. A more pixel-dense panel demands stronger backlighting, and Apple will increase the thickness of the iPad 3 by a minor 0.7mm in order to fit a second light bar.

That fits with previous leaks that indicated the iPad 3 would run at a whopping 2048 x 1536 resolution, Acer is believed to be readying a 1920 x 1200 Iconia Tab A700 running NVIDIA quadcore Tegra 3, but even that would be out-pixeled by the Apple rumored iPad3.

Galaxy Nexus Mass Storage Mode

Ever since people have gotten their hands on the Galaxy Nexus, we have been hearing reports of the device not supporting the USB Mass Storage (UMS) protocol that allows you to mount the internal memory on your computer. Since this is the first Ice Cream Sandwich device, this peculiarity was attributed to the OS lacking the particular feature. But as Google engineer Dan Morrill explains, that is not the case.

As it happens, Ice Cream Sandwich does support UMS, its just that the Galaxy Nexus does not. Instead, it uses MTP or Media Transfer Protocol, which is natively supported on Windows and commonly used by devices such as media players to sync with Windows Media Player.

The reason for this is simple. Unlike, say, the Nexus S, which has two separate memory chips, the 1GB internal ROM on which the OS is installed and where you can also install apps and the second, 16GB storage memory for all your other stuff, including apps, which is what gets mounted on the PC when you connect it through USM.

On the Galaxy Nexus, they are using only one 16/32GB memory on which everything, including the OS is stored. This memory, as just explained, cannot be mounted on any other device. This is where MTP comes in. It allows you to transfer data just like on USM but without having to unmount the memory from the original device.

Images and specs have leaked of an unannounced Nokia device, bound for China with a dual-mode quad-band GSM and TD-SCDMA network codenamed 801T. In the specs sheet that was uncovered it says it uses the Symbian^3 and not WP7. It could be Anna or Belle.

The screen will have an nHD resolution and will measure about 4.3-inch, the camera is an 8 MP unit and there are no visible buttons on the front.

Nokia

There is no word on the processor but the quoted RAM is 256MB, which does not exactly scream high end these days. And it is a hefty device at 171 g.
Being dual-mode GSM and TD-SCDMA device, the 801T will be able to operate globally on most networks.

Apple has removed its Texas Holdem game from the App Store, potentially marking the end of the only game Apple ever produced on its own for the App Store.

Texas Hold'em began life as a game for non-iOS iPod models, debuting in late 2006 as Apple introduced the iPhone just a few months later, rumors circulated that Apple wasgetting serious about gaming, in part evidenced by its in-house work on Texas Hold'em for the iPod.

When Apple officially launched the App Store for the iPhone and iPod touch in 2008 to allow third-party developers to create apps for iOS, Texas Hold'em appeared as a debut title with greatly enhanced functionality over the traditional iPod version, further fueling claims of Apple interest in pursuing game development of its own.

Unsurprisingly, Apple has not released any information on the reason behind the disappearance of the Game which sold for 4.99 USD. Apple has also removed the Texas Hold'em feature page from apple.com too.

Russian hackers may have sabotaged a water pump in what is being described as the first foreign cyber attack on US utility infrastructure, damaging both hardware and confidence in critical systems. The attack targeted a Springfield, Illinois water utility station on November 8, Reuters reports, using network credentials stolen from an industrial software developer the pump was apparently remotely activated and burnt out, though redundant systems meant no impact was felt by residents of the town.

Nonetheless, the event is being taken seriously by the Illinois Statewide Terrorism and Intelligence Center, with the US Department of Homeland Security and the FBI both involved in the investigation. Although still early, the teams involved insist there is no cause for ongoing concern, with DHS spokesperson Peter Boogaard arguing that "there is no credible corroborated data that indicates a risk to critical infrastructure entities or a threat to public safety."

Nikon D800

Three years after the Nikon D700 was launched, it seems Nikon is finally going to launch a successor. What you see below is supposedly the upcoming Nikon D800, leaked by the folks at Nikon Rumors.

According to the purported specifications, the D800 will have a 36 megapixel sensor. That is 7,360 x 4,912 and 1/3 the resolution of the D700 12.1 megapixel sensor. This comes across as a rather strangmove as I thought we had finally gone past the megapixel craze and were concentrateing more on the low-light performance, something high resolution sensors are not very good at.

Along with the high resolution image capture, the D800 will also be capable of 1080p video recording in 30, 25 and 24-fps and 720p recording in 60, 30, 25 and 24-fps.

Nexus

Earlier this week when Google released the source code for Ice Cream Sandwich we knew it will not be long before developers start coming up with custom ICS ROMs for other Android devices. And one such ROM has just surfaced.

Created by xda-developer members, this custom ROM is currently only meant for the Nexus S. The ROM is pretty stable with just minor issues such as lack of data usage statistics and USB mass storage support at the moment but expect these to be fixed soon.

Enterprising modders are seemingly one step closer to getting Windows Phone 7 devices to dual-boot with Android and other platforms, with Samsung Focus being coaxed into running an unofficial bootloader. The handiwork of DFT Cotulla, the hack currently allows the MAGLDR bootloader to run after the Focus original bootloader, with the eventual goal being a selection of official and unofficial ROMs to choose from.

Samsung WP7 Mulit boot

One obvious possibility is that the aftermarket ROM community could get newer versions of Windows Phone running on the Focus, long after Samsung has given up support for the first-gen device. However, it is also likely that attentions will also turn to other popular mobile platforms, such as Android.

Wondering how to setup iOS 5 new iMessage service on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch? Using iMessage you can send text messages, photos, video and much more to other iMessage users around the world, all over your existing data connection. No texting plans or charges is needed.

For iPhone first

  • First off ensure your running the latest iOS 5 software
  • Select settings
  • Select Messages
  • Turn the toggle switch for iMessage to on
  • You should see a message saying “Activating”
  • You can now enter your receive to addresses, this can be an email address (Apple ID) or just your iPhone phone number, or both. The phone number part should already be filled out
  • If you have an Apple ID and want to use that as well as your phone number, enter it here
  • Once completed you will now have an active iMessage account on your iPhone
  • You can toggle various options on and off such as read recipts etc
  • Also you have an option to send as an SMS if iMessage data connection is not available
That is all you need, you now have iMessage set up on your iPhone!

For the iPad and iPod touch

Setting up iMessage on the iPad and iPod touch is slightly diferent as these devices do not have any telephone number associated with them.
  • First off ensure your running the latest iOS 5 software
  • Select settings
  • Select Messages
  • Turn the toggle switch for iMessage to on
  • A new box will open asking you for an Apple ID

If you have multiple iOS 5 devices then you will need to think about how you want them to work. Do you want separate iMessage accounts for each device? More than likely, you would want one account that stays in sync across all of your devices.

If you want separate iMessage accounts for each device, you will need to create separate Apple ID’s for each device, these can be created for free in the iMessage original set up screen. Just select Create New Account.

Since the launch of the iPhone 4S one of the major issues users have been reporting is a short battery life in the device.Even after the 5.0.1, New report says Apple is working to fix it again on the 5.0.2

The company prides itself on providing long battery life in its mobile devices as one of their selling points. But with the iPhone 4S specifically and with devices running the newly released iOS 5 operating system in general battery life seems to have diminished for many users, and Apple has blamed the mobile operating system iOS5.

Apple has responded to reports of shortened battery life for the iPhone 4S by trying to tweak iOS 5 software with an update, marked as iOS 5.0.1. That update dropped last week, but things did not get better because of it. In fact, some users reported that battery life was made even worse on their devices.

BBM will include some preloaded animations, including "in love", "smile", and "laughter", but you will be able to load up your own too. On top of that, BBM 6.1 will have 12 new emoticons, double character limit for status messages, coloured chat bubbles on a per-contact basis, and the ability to set avatar images directly from the native camera application.

Galaxy S II with ICS 4.0

While the US is still patiently awaiting the official release of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, our favorite phone in Android-land at the moment has just received an Ice Cream Sandwich port. That phone would be the Samsung Galaxy S II and there is even a video (Below) to show off the Ice Cream Sandwhich.

Now that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich source code has been unleashed to the world, ports of the latest version of the mobile OS will start to become a normal thing. That said, having ICS on the Galaxy S II must be a real treat, so to speak, but do not get too excited just yet. Like many new developments of the sort, there is not a lot that is actually working properly. This will change in time but ports like this usually have multiple updates per week so you may want to wait it out and come back when it is usable.

For many of us, the Xperia Play just was not quite tempting enough to throw out your PSP or 3DS, but there is no doubt that mobile gaming is on its way to the big leagues. The dedicated D-Pad was an excellent idea, but there simply were not enough games supported to make it a worthwhile investment.

Meet Fluctel Gametel Gaming Controller a bluetooth controller that latches on to any Android phone that runs Android 2.1 or higher. It will support over 50 games straight out of the box, including Cordy, Asphalt 6 HD, Reckless Getaway, Guns'n'Glory, MotoX Mayhem, Happy Vikings and Zenonia.

Gametel

According to PocketGamer, the Gametel Gaming Controller offers about nine hours of battery life and automatically shuts down after six minutes of inactivity. The controller connects to the phone via Bluetooth, which means that you can also disconnect the controller and play from afar. A handful of powerful Android devices sport kickstands these days so that is an option, but if your phone supports HDMI out then you are in for a real treat. No console, no expensive games just you, your phone, and the gaming controller docking it out on the big screen.

However, as the unlock seems to work only on ATT-locked iPhones 4S, 4 and 3GS and with a data-enabled T-Mobile SIM.

The steps are simple enough to follow but continue on your own risk. You have enable the Wi-Fi, disable the Location services, then turn Airplane mode while on your active AT&T network. Remove the SIM card and get ready to enter your T-Mobile chip.

If you are an owners of the Galaxy Nexus in these first days of its release complete with the first iteration of Ice Cream Sandwich, you will notice that you do not have Adobe Flash Player installed, and You do NOT have access to download it on the Android Market, Google has just confirmed with us that this is normal and that Flash support will only come once Adobe makes the call to update the mobile version for Android 4.0. You currently will not have the ability to load either a new version or one of the older versions of Flash Player for Ice Cream Sandwich until Adobe makes the call to update their app to be compatible with this newest version of Android.

"Flash hasn't been released for ICS yet so as far as we know, Adobe will support Flash for ICS."

When Apple sent its legal team after Samsung in Germany for copying the design of their iPad the German court responded by granting an injunction to Apple, which prevented Samsung from selling their Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the German markets.

Samsung has no intention of going down without a fight, so it responded with the only way it can at this point, by changing the design of their Galaxy Tab.

The new Galaxy Tab 10.1 or the Tab 10.1N as it is called, has a slightly updated design, which Samsung must be hoping is different enough stay out of legal trouble without straying too far from their original design. So what they have done is added a metal back, which extends towards the front from the sides and acts like a frame for the display. They have also changed the placement of the loudspeaker. All other specs are the same as the Original Galaxy Tab 10.1 thought.

iPad 3

According to a Digitimes report, panel makers are preparing for a Q4 slowdown as Applecurbs its orders for iPad 2 components. Apple is both selling off excess iPad 2 inventory and preparing for the iPad 3.

Apple cut back on panel orders in Q3 2011, a move that caused LG shipments to fall by 500,000 and CMI panel shipments to be slashed in half. These cutbacks were necessary as iPad shipments reportedly exceeded demand. Industry sources claim Apple has a standing inventory of 4-5 million unsold iPads leftover from Q3 that it hopes to sell in the holiday quarter.

This slowdown in iPad 2 panel shipments also coincides with a manufacturing shift as Apple prepares to phase out the iPad 2 and launch the iPad 3. While iPad 2 suppliers decline, Samsung and Sharp are beginning to increase their shipments of display panels for the iPad 3. Besides these two manufacturers, TPK Holding and Wintek will be shipping iPad 3 touch panels starting in November and December.

Since the release of the iPhone 4S, users have complained that the battery drains out completely in only a short amount of time of actual usage. iOS 5.0.2 is set to be released "no later than next week" and is expected to address any remaining issues associated with the 4S. Apple has not publicly made a comment on the battery issue, aside from the small description in the iPhone software update release notes.

Through a well-known hacking method called reverse-engineering, they were able to figure out how Apple humble personal assistant communicates with the company servers. Unsurprisingly, it turns out that Siri uses a secure connection, and a valid security certificate was needed in order to establish one. However, the guys discovered that any self-signed certificate would do the trick just fine, meaning that they had no trouble obtaining permission to transfer data with Apple server.

Incoming and outgoing connections were monitored via a proxy server during the procedure, which is why the folks could take a look at the data that is sent to Apple and at the data that is returned to the iPhone 4S. In a nutshell, Siri compresses your audio input and sends it to the server, after which the data gets processed and returned to the sender device. However, before replying, Apple server verifies whether the the iPhone in use is valid or not via its unique identifier, also known as UDID.

ZETA

Possible design and specs of an upcoming handset codenamed HTC Zeta have been leaked courtesy of Engadget. This phone is supposed to have a 2.5GHz quad-core APQ8064 CPU and 1GB of RAM. Other interesting items on the spec sheet are a 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 display and Ice Cream Sandwich pre-installed along with Sense UI.

The handset supposedly measures 109.8 x 60.9 x 9.8mm and weighs 146g. Inside you will find 32GB of storage space, 8 megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash and 1080p video recording, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, Bluetooth 4.0, Beats Audio and an 1,830mAh battery.

On the outside the device has an interesting pincushion design that is narrow in the middle and widens towards the top and bottom. We can see the earpiece grille right at the top edge along with the camera sensor. What is curious though is the presence of the keys below the display. Since this phone will come with Ice Cream Sandwich pre-installed, ideally it should not have any keys. Unless, HTC has decided to go their own way and stick with the keys for now.

A new promo video has turned up today that shows off a different smartphone that has not been announced yet. The phone in the video is thought to be the Nokia N900 otherwise known as the Ace. It appears to have a lot of Nokia 700 DNA in the design with the addition of a speaker grill on the bottom of the phone.

This is an official Nokia video apparently so it is a bit odd to see the firm teasing with an unreleased smartphone. In shots with the screen activated and the control buttons on it is clear this is a Windows Phone. That is no surprise given the tie up with Nokia and Microsoft for Mango devices.

Unfortuantly, The video just went private, which suggests that what we saw most probably was the real deal.

Trap.it

If you have been following Siri in the iPhone 4S closely, you might be interested in this. Siri sprang from a DARPA program that was looking into artificial intelligence. A new web discovery engine is set to debut that sprang form that same program that sired Siri. The web discovery engine is called Trapit. Trapit is an interesting concept that works by having the user type key words in rather than by voice like Siri.

The user can type in a couple keywords and Trapit will search around the web looking for images, video, recipes and other content on the topic entered. That sounds a lot like Google at first glance, but Trapit has another trick up its sleeves. Once you put in those keyboards and send Trapit out to find your information, you can save that inquiry.

Droid life

Yesterday, the Wi-Fi-only model of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 received the Android 3.2 Honeycomb update.. Unfortunately, instead of making things better, it made them worse. The update caused devices to lose Wi-Fi connectivity and since this is the Wi-Fi only model we are talking about here, that actually means a complete loss of Internet connectivity.

Samsung has now pulled the update but for those who updated the damage is already done. Hopefully, a new update will be released soon that not only takes care of the issues but actually makes things better, as updates are supposed to.

Other problems caused by the update include loss of Bluetooth connectivity and failure of the display auto-rotate function.

HTC_DropBox

Remember when we told you guys about the deal HTC made with Dropbox for 3GB of bonus storage, Well this left a lot of unanswered questions in regards to how the whole program would work.

Many users after installing the app from the Android Market and signing in, they noticed the desktop client on his PC notify him that the bonus 3GB of storage had been added to his account.

If you are new to Dropbox, DB will give you 2GB to start out with and the bonus 3GB will bring up to 5GBUsing referral links you could potentially get you all the way up to 11GB of cloud storage all without paying a dime. However. The 3GB of extra storage is not permanent and will expire after 1 calendar year.

The display industry is hard hit today with prices dropping and demand down. The companies that were planning to expand have killed those plans and some firms are looking to exit the market. Sony, Toshiba, and Hitachi have all finalized a plan that will see them merging their respective display units. The deal has now been finalized and will result in a new company.

The agreement is in place with the Innovation Network Corporation of Japan to integrate all three display businesses. The resulting company will be a semi-public entity and INCJ will hold 70% of the new firm called Japan Display Inc. The three original firms will each have 10% of the merged company. Once merged there will be $2.6 billion in new shares issued to INCJ for its part of the new company.

Nokia

Rest assured cameraphone fans, Nokia is still thinking about you. The manufacturer of the N8 is already working on its successor, which will come out some time next year. The confirmation came at the Nokia Lumia 800 launch event in Russia and was brought by the company VP Eric Bertman so its pretty official.

According to him, next year Nokia will be releasing something even better than the N8 in 2012. He did not provide any more details, like the OS that the device will be using. Previously we heard that Symbian is very much on the cards, but Windows Phone certainly seems the more probable platform of choice of the new cameraphone king.

SOURCE CODE

After a few weeks of waiting, Google has finally released the source code for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. This means you will soon be able to get the latest update running on your Android devices, assuming you have the programming skills. Or you could just wait for your favorite custom ROM to be made available in Ice Cream Sandwich flavor.

Google is saying that the code is still being pushed due to its large size and if synced at the moment it will end up being useless. Their advise is to wait for them to tell you when its ready to sync.

The code is actually the 4.0.1 update, the exact same one that the Galaxy Nexus will be running on. This code will have to be modified in order to run on other devices. It also comes with a full history of the Android source code tree, including Honeycomb, which was till now unavailable.

HTC is preparing a quad-core Android tablet for launch in February 2012, according to the latest rumors, along with at least two Android smartphones. The new HTC slate will use NVIDIA freshly announcedTegra 3 processor, China Commercial Times claims, and be revealed at Mobile World Congress 2012, with the paper suggesting that it could be HTC only Android slate of the year.

Instead, HTC is tipped to be aiming to get its tablet to the market before rivals running Windows 8 are released, that expected to take place sometime in Q3. It’s unclear whether HTC is also preparing a Windows 8 tablet of its own, though rumors earlier this month suggested the company was planning to use the ARM-specific build of the upcoming Microsoft OS on a product of its own.

Droid RAZR

If you thought the Motorola DROID RAZR launching in the US was awesome, you should get a load of these. Motorola is planning on launching not one but two RAZR devices in China on different carriers and they both pack more impressive hardware than the US and International versions.

First is the XT928, a slightly thicker version of the DROID RAZR but with one key difference that justifies the added girth, it has a 13 megapixel camera sensor. There is also a Dolby Digital Plus certification mentioned proudly on the back. This model, however, loses the Kevlar back found on the DROID RAZR.

Nokia lumia

Smartphone enthusiasts in India are in for one hell of a time, as three of the most anticipated smartphone from the top three platforms have landed on the shores of the sub-continent.

First up is the Nokia Lumia series, which was launched in India today with a grand event. Considering the fact that India is a key market for Nokia and that the phones went up on their India website shortly after the event in London, its no surprise that the Lumia phones arrived in India so soon.

The Nokia Lumia 800 is priced at 29,000 INR ($577) and the Lumia 710 is priced at 19,000 INR ($378). With that price the Nokia 800 will become the most expensive Windows Phone 7 smartphone in the country and will be competing with Android smartphones such as the Galaxy S II and HTC Sensation, which are priced similarly. The Lumia 701, on the other hand, will compete against the recently launchedSamsung Omnia W and the HTC Radar.

The Apple iPhone 4S will also shortly be making an appearance in India. Although Apple hasn't officially announced it yet, Indian mobile phone carrier Aircel has announced on their website that they will be launching the phone on November 25 and that the phone will be available for pre-order starting November 18. There are also rumors that Airtel will be joining Aircel in selling the 4S. Currently, the same two carriers are selling the locked version of iPhone 4 in India. No information regarding the price is available at the moment.

Lastly, we have the Motorola RAZR XT910 that was slated for launch in India sometime by the end of the year but surprised everyone when it suddenly appeared in stock on an online retailer website. The phone is currently priced at 33,990 ($676), which is a fair bit more than the Galaxy S II that currently costs about Rs. 28,500 INR (567) from the same retailer and closer to that of the Galaxy Note, which was recently launched in India for 34,990 INR ($696).
