Apple has confirmed that Game Center, its social and gaming networking application included with iOS 4.1, will work on the second-generation iPod touch, but not on the iPhone 3G.

The iPhone 3G joins the first-generation iPhone and iPod touch models as the only iOS-based devices that cannot access Game Center. But there is key difference: the iPhone 3G can run iOS 4, while the first-generation iPhone and iPod touch are locked out of the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system. Apple
confirmed the compatibility of the new Game Center application on its website this week. The company also on Tuesday reset all Game Center accounts that had been registered by developers testing the golden master of Apple's forthcoming iOS 4.1 update, expected to be released on Wednesday.

Game Center compatibility with the second-generation iPod touch is a change from
last month, when a beta build of iOS 4.1 excluded both it and the iPhone 3G.

Samsung

Samsung are to take steps to try and alleviate the global shortage of Super AMOLED screens by building a ew production facility near Seoul. Currently Samsung has the capacity to produce around 3 million units per month, the the new plant should see that increase by a factor of ten to 30 million units per month. The move is necessitated by the chronic shortage of displays that has affected a number of manufacturers and led them to using alternative Super LD screens from Sony to make up the shortfall.

Samsung themselves have been affected as they have not been giving their own products priority over their competitors. In an email to the Dow Jones Lee Woo-Jong, vice president of marketing at Samsung, explained the situation "We've put in a great deal of effort to move up mass production" and noted that Samsung too were feeling the effects of the shortage.

The new plant will cost $2.1 billion, but with manufacturers going to rival Sony for their displays and the appetite for smartphones seemingly insatiable it looks to be money well spent.

Defy

We all saw the Motorola Milestone2 photos a while ago. As for the rugged Motorola DEFY, it is dust-scratch and waterproof, weighs only 118 grams and it sadly does not have Froyo onboard but it runs Android 2.1 Eclair. Its features an 800MHz processor, 512MB of RAM and 2GB of internal storage. And on its back there is a 5 megapixel autofocus snapper.

Mile2

Apparently, the recently announced Motorola MILESTONE 2 and the rugged Motorola DEFY are both coming to Vodafone Germany at some point. They have been spotted over at the Vodafone stand at this year's IFA fair which takes place in Berlin.

Mile2

The two devices made their first public appearance a week ago and now, during the IFA in Berlin, they are paying Vodafone a short visit. This undoubtedly means that soon both of them will show up in the Vodafone stores across Germany (and maybe elsewhere).

Sony Ericsson and SPB Software have been collaborating for a long while the last combined effort from them that we have seen was the Sony Ericsson Aspen. Now, Sony Ericsson will be bundling the Vivaz and Vivaz pro with a tailor made SPB Mobile Shell in the Asia-Pacific region.

We have reviewed SPB Mobile Shell and we were left with a positive impression. Sony Ericsson had some light customizations on the Vivaz duo but nothing as extensive as what SPB has to offer.

WebOS2

A nice little package of webOS 2.0 beta shots has shown up over at Wibozi, and its looking nice. One very handy and apparently easily-accessed feature is setting default apps for filetypes with the right combination of sideloading and file management, serious hacks probably will not be necessary for webOS devices to play uncommon and nonstandard formats.

There are lots of suggested and default services shown as well, though we are told that Dropbox and MobileMe are actually only there as part of the QuickOffice suite. That’s not to say webOS will not have native access to those (though Dropbox seems more likely than MobileMe), just a clarification so you know whats going on there.

price

The full touch Walkman phone Sony Ericsson W150i Yendo was announced back in June and now it's almost ready to start selling. For 169 euro. Meanwhile, the device paid the FCC a short visit and as it turns out, it will be called Yizo in the US.

The Yendo which first showed up a few months back is getting ready to hit the stores. We spotted it on the Phone House Spain website and right under its image and name there was its price. This just about solves one of the final remaining mysteries about the Yendo. The device is priced at 169 euro, SIM-free.

Along with the photos of the Yendo exterior and internals the FCC website also holds the Sony Ericsson W150a manual. And according to it, the American version of the W150i Yendo will be called Sony Ericsson W150a Yizo.

ios

In case you missed it, iOS 4.1 was made official and released to developers on the first. Seems that Apple might have made a slight misstep when they released it however the version that went it works with any iPhone/iPod Touch, not just the developer units. The upshot is that if you do not want to wait for the general release, you do not have to you can go to the Uneasy Silence forum and download it. There’s also quite the support discussion built up on that forum, so if you have any questions about iOS 4.1 odds are the answer is there.

Samsung Orion will become available to manufacturers partners in Q4 this year, while the mass-production cycle will start in the1H of 2011.

Official Press Release

Samsung Introduces High Performance, Low Power Dual CORTEXTM - A9 Application Processor for Mobile Devices

TAIPEI, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a world leader in advanced semiconductor solutions, today introduced its new 1GHz ARM® CORTEXTM A9-based dual-core application processor, codenamed Orion, for advanced mobile applications. Device OEM developers now have a powerful dual processor chip platform designed specifically to meet the needs of high-performance, low-power mobile applications including tablets, netbooks and smartphones. Samsung's new processor will be demonstrated at the seventh annual Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum held here in Taiwan at the Westin Taipei Hotel.

"Consumers are demanding the full web experience without compromise while on the go," said Dojun Rhee, vice president of Marketing, System LSI Division, Samsung Electronics. "Given this trend, mobile device designers need an application processor platform that delivers superb multimedia performance, fast CPU processing speed, and abundant memory bandwidth. Samsung's newest dual core application processor chip is designed specifically to fulfill such stringent performance requirements while maintaining long battery life."

Designed using Samsung's 45 nanometer low-power process technology, Orion features a pair of 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 cores, each comes with a 32KB data cache and a 32KB instruction cache. Samsung also included a 1MB L2 cache to optimize CPU processing performance and provide fast context switching in a multi-tasking environment. In addition, the memory interface and bus architecture of Orion supports data intensive multimedia applications including full HD video playback and high speed 3D action games.

Samsung's new application processor incorporates a rich portfolio of advanced multimedia features implemented by hardware accelerators, such as video encoder/decoder that supports 30fps video playback and recording at 1080P full HD resolution. Using an enhanced graphics processing unit (GPU), the new processors are capable of delivering 5 times the 3D graphics performance over the previous processor generation from Samsung.

For design flexibility and system BOM cost reduction, Orion integrates a set of interfaces commonly used in mobile devices to configure various peripheral functionalities. For example, with this processor, customers have the choice to use different types of storage including NAND flash, moviNANDTM, SSD or HDD providing both SATA, and eMMC interfaces. Customers can also choose their appropriate memory options including low power LPDDR2 or DDR3, which is commonly used for high performance. In addition, a global positioning system (GPS) receiver baseband processor is embedded in the processor to seamlessly support location based services (LBS), which is critical in many emerging mobile applications.

Orion features an onboard native triple display controller architecture that compliments multi-tasking operations in a multiple display environment. A mobile device using the Orion processor can simultaneously support two on-device display screens, while driving a third external display such as a TV or a monitor, via an on-chip HDMI 1.3a interface.

Orion is designed to support package-on-package (POP) with memory stacking to reduce the footprint. A derivative of Orion, which is housed in a standalone package with a 0.8mm ball pitch, is also available.

Samsung's new dual-core application processor, Orion, will be available to select customers in the fourth quarter of 2010 and is scheduled for mass production in the first half of 2011.

N9

Nokia plans for its in-house Nokia World expo should include its first mainstream Eseries touchscreen phone, leaks revealed on Monday. The E7, a touchscreen QWERTY model, is said by Reuters to be at the September 14 show. The tips did not provide more details, but it may be a Symbian^3 slider somewhat reminiscent of the MeeGo-usingN9.

The London event should also be used to confirm that the N8 is finally shipping, seven months after it was first unveiled. Other new smartphones are expected to come along, although which ones weren't mentioned.

Much is riding on the successes of the E7 and N8, as Nokia is hoping to modernize its rapidly aging smartphone line. Its
share is collapsing both in smartphones and the wider cellphone arena as Apple's iPhone and Google Android platform have been taking away customers. Even today, most Nokia smartphones do not use touch and are running a modified version of Symbian S60 only somewhat adjusted for finger input. The company has also had a history of being unable to ship phones near their unveiling dates and often delivers them half a year later, once their features have already been introduced by someone else.

MeeGo and Symbian^3 will give Nokia multi-touch more than three years after Apple first introduced it to a phone. Both should also provide much more recent web browser technology and will smooth out many of the overly complex interface elements that have held back S60.

GSMarena has made this Test and its result (Below) as to iPhone4 loudspeaker performance, there nothing new about  iPhone4, Still struggling to make the Below Average mark and that makes it the worst part of all iphones and they said "its the worst iPhones we have tested."

The other letdown concerning the iPhone 4 telephony is its proximity sensor. In theory this sensor should lock the display when you hold it next to your face during a call so you won't press any buttons with your cheek by accident.

Pamela

Nokia is the world largest cell phone manufacturer, but when it comes to smartphones, it losing ground to iPhone and Android-based devices. Thus, the expectations for its next high-end, Symbian^3-based device, the Nokia N8, are through the roof.

Nokia N8 is coming soon  September 30th, if you trust Nokia’s Senior Comms Manager Tapani Kaskinen and one of its biggest claims to fame is a 12-megapixel camera capable of recording Full HD video.

The camera is a big selling point for the N8, and Nokia plans to draw attention to it in a big way: by hiring Pamela Anderson and Ed Westwick (of Gossip Girl fame) to star in a short movie shot entirely with the Nokia N8’s camera.

It gets better: two lucky fans will have a chance to play the main roles in the movie, dubbed The Commuter. Although the details about the script are scarce, one fan will partake in a bedroom scene with Pamela, while another will be in an elevator with Ed Westwick.

The short feature will be directed by the McHenry Brothers, who have just finished filming their first full-length animated movie, Jackboots on Whitehall, starring Ewan McGregor and Rosamund Pike.

In August Android took share from every corner of the market, putting in its best month share gain since November 2009. As you can see on the chart above iOS, Android, RIM OS (Blackberry OS) and Other. the iOS from Apple is going Down Month by Month in opposite to Google Android is going up fast month by month. Blackberry OS from RIM is very stable but still going a little bit down every month but Nothing to affect its popularity even with the Banning happened during this year in many countries. Other OSs are various up and down and very close to RIM OS. but what we really Notice
Apple Goes DOWN and Google goes UP!

LG

Today LG officially introduced their first WP7 running handset Optimus 7. You would think that, being the first company to formally introduce a WP7 handset, the Koreans will have quite a lot to say about it, but obviously this is not the case. All LG gave us was a couple of photos of the device and a few words about its DLNA capabilities.

LG7 showcase

They even went as far as to remove the Windows logo from the phone. However the design and the naming leave no doubt that it’s the formerly known as LG Panther device we are looking at. The Optimus 7 will obviously also be able to stream 720p videos directly to your TV and that’s about all the info LG were willing to share.

At any rate the Optimus 7 should be in the shops before the end of the year, No word on Pricing from LG.

HTC

HTC supplies U.S. carriers Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile but says a year ago only one in 10 Americans knew its name. With the help of marketing by cellular carriers and HTC own television ads during the baseball World Series, HTC says that number is up to 40 percent.

"We want to be one of the leaders," said John Wang, the 13-year-old company chief marketing officer.

In trying to establish a global brand, HTC is following in the footsteps of another Taiwanese company, Acer Inc., which is battling Dell Inc. for the title of second-largest personal computer maker. Other rising Taiwanese technology names include software producer Trend Micro and Asustek Computer, a maker of PCs and cell phones.

HTC path to its own brand has been complicated by U.S. carriers preference for many years to market its phones under their own brands.

That started to change in 2007, and the HTC brand started showing up on phones, as carriers figured that the company had some cachet among early adopters that they could capitalize on. HTC phones on the U.S. market include the Droid Incredible, sold by Verizon Wireless, the HD2, sold by T-Mobile USA, and the Hero, sold by Sprint Nextel Corp.

Even now, HTC is careful to avoid straining ties with carriers by promoting its own identity too aggressively. Such ties are crucial in the United States, Japan and other markets where carriers usually pick which phones to offer. In Europe and elsewhere, customers pick their own phones and buy service separately.

"I don't think it should ever become a destination phone, because that is very arrogant," Wang said.

The company's slogan, "Quietly Brilliant," expresses both modesty and pride

RIM BlackBerry Torch 9800 is not exactly the barnburner-of-a-smartphone that we were hoping it would be, but at least it looks snazzy, Regardless of your answer to that, its a bona fide fact that Colorware has outdone itself on this one. Usually, its most fun to toy around with the company endless array of hues in order to create the most hideous version of your favorite gadget before pretending to hit the order button, but for whatever reason, the first handset to ship with BlackBerry OS 6 actually looks dapper in red and white. Or maybe thats just the Wolf-pack in us talking. Anyway, its available to customize now in the source link from $250 to $1,050.

Froyo

Some guys at xda have stumbled upon an updated Froyo build for the Nexus One. The FRG33 update corrects a few minor bugs and adds a new version of the installed radio. Those who have downloaded the software on their N-One have said that the handset is quicker when connected to Wi-Fi. Overall, the FRG33 seems to provide a bump up in speed, surpassing the benchmark score of the phone using the prior Android 2.2 build.

At first, the developers thought they had stumbled on to an Android 3.0 ROM because of the use of the letter "G" in the build description, which, it had been hoped, could have stood for the "Gingerbread" code name for the next level of the Android OS. Instead, what was discovered was the next build up for Froyo. There is some speculation that installing this on your device could prevent you from visiting the Android Market. There has been some discussion on forum boards on how to handle this problem.

samsung

Samsung have been making it known that Android is their first priority when it comes to smartphones. Great news for Android, but less so for Windows Mobile 7, which is due to launch within the next few months. Its not just that Samsung are not giving Windows Phone 7 priority though, they were actually dismissive of it. YH Lee, Samsung marketing chief, told Reuters that "... we are prioritizing our Android platform ...". He then went on to say of Windows Mobile 7 "... there is still some professional, specialized demand there." That does not sound like the words of a man embracing a new consumer platform that Microsoft at least hopes will rival Android and iOS. Indeed Mr Lee was talking up Android by comparison saying that there was a 'consumer demand for it.

If Samsung view of Windows Phone 7 was not exactly upbeat their view of Symbian (yes Samsung have dabbled) was positively dour. Mr Lee commented that Samsung were seeing no '
visible demand' for it. Hardly surprising really given the combination of Samsung never having truly committed to the platform and the waning star that the platform is under at the moment.

As for Samsung own Bada OS Lee confirmed that Samsung will be continuing with the project and of course Samsung will shortly be releasing their second Bada handset, the Wave 723. Far be it form a humble tech writer to suggest that Bada is not really capturing the public imagination and that Windows Phone 7 will probably have a bigger impact, but Samsung presumably knows best.

Apple UK site revealed the iOS 4.1 launch date they have fixed it now, but the secret is out. The new version brings bug fixes, new features, but most importantly fixes the iPhone 3G performance, which has been glacial up till now.The iOS 4.1 update is expected next week, and the UK site gave us a specific date September 8, Wednesday.

For iPhone 3G owners, the biggest gain from iOS 4.1 will be the much improved performance. Check out the video below, which races a 3G running iOS 4.0 against the same unit running 4.1. The UI becomes more responsive and beats v4.0 across the board with a pretty big advantage in some places.

MeeGo OS1.1

MeeGo has been designed for the new mobile world, where people are at the center of fast flowing streams of information, where they expect to tailor their device with a myriad of applications, and where new economies are evolving around those applications. The design has been driven by a core set of Design Principles these principles drive our decisions throughout the design process.

The MeeGo interface is scalable for different screen sizes, resolutions, and aspect ratios and it supports both portrait and landscape orientations.

These guidelines have been written to help you design and develop applications for the new mobile world. They are 'alive' therefore new content will be added and edited as the project develops, so please come back and visit regularly to keep up-to-date with the latest information.

The MeeGo theme system is versatile, allowing for both global changes and special exceptions to the general theme logic. It’s possible to invest only a small amount of effort to set baseline colors, fonts, shapes, and backgrounds.

The sizes can be the same at first, but consider tuning them if the new font’s x-height differs from the original font. Make sure that the font size does not enlarge so much that it truncates.

Font

Example of changing font.

Icons

Any icons on the device can be customized, either framework or application icons. Only the changed icons are affected.

How to customize

The icons are SVG vector files stored in the Icons folder. As they are vectors, one size can be scaled to any needed layout.

The icon names indicate which application they belong to, for example icon-m-messaging-smiley-wink is used in messaging application. On the other hand, icon-m-common-phone is a phone icon used in several applications. The s, l, and m prefixes describe the amount of details in the icons – small doesn’t have the same level of detail as large.
The icons can be modified with Inkscape or Illustrator CS4 and above.

Dependencies

Note that the background affects the visibility icons. If the application top bar (command area) is changed to white, the current white icons cannot be seen, and must be changed to a darker color.

Launcher_grid

New application launcher icons in the same theme.

Dependencies

The background has to be carefully designed with all the other elements in the interface. The application background is what shows under all the buttons, switchers, and label texts. Note that dialogs and container graphics also work as a background for certain elements.

transparent_list

The application background shows through a transparent list.

The Droid Star wars Edition which called the Droid R2-D2 from Verizon has released a Desktop Dock or Cradle which can hold your Droid Warrior Horizontally in a very beautiful way with Droid R2-D2 logo on it too. Its essentially just a white dock with (Star Wars) scribed on the back.

ideos new Huawei Ideos: Android 2.2, 2.8 inch QVGA screen, around $150 [UPDATE: Video!]

Huawei has just announced what they are calling the first mass market Android 2.2 device, the Ideos. The Ideos is the exact opposite of high end. Its got a 2.8 inch screen that has the ancient resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, but hey, at least its capacitive. Its also got a 3.2 megapixel camera, 528 MHz processor, 256 MB of RAM, 7.2 Mbps HSPA, 802.11n WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth and a microSD card slot.

Huawei is also proud to point out that this is the only Android 2.2 device with Google branding on the back. That means the Chinese firm did not pull an HTC or Samsung and put their own customized user interface on top. The Ideos runs stock Android. Its also going to get upgrades to newer versions of Android as they become available.

ipad twitter

It seems that when the Twitter for iPad app launched a few days ago, a few users were accidentally blessed with push notifications. Those privileges have since been revoked, but it seemed to confirm that the option would be coming soon.

Press release:

"When we launched Twitter for iPad, there was a configuration error that caused us to offer push messages to a small set of users," wrote a Twitter spokesperson. We’ve stopped sending push messages, but users may see an option to turn on push until we release an updated version of the app."

"We’ve been testing push notifications internally," the rep continued. "Push isn’t ready yet, but we look forward to rolling this out soon."

iTV

The new Apple TV, its nothing like the previous generation. There is a new A4 processor, nicer, more compact design and a few other new goodies such as Wireless N. The most major change is that there is no longer local storage inside the Apple TV set top box. Instead, your only option with it is streaming movies rented from iTunes or videos saved on your computer. Also its an HDMI Ready Device up to 1080p. The new Apple TV should go for 99 US dollars.

"Apple TV has been redesigned to be small in size but big on entertainment. Rent from the largest selection of HD movies  many available the same day they come out on DVD. Watch Netflix titles instantly. Rent TV shows, commercial free in HD. And stream photos and music from your computer to your widescreen TV. Best of all, Apple TV is just $99." Nano

The iPod nano (pictured above) got even smaller and now sports a 1.53 touchscreen with multi-touch support as well as a shuffle like clip on the back. It sure sounds great but I would like to give that tiny touchscreen a try.

nano

The new iPod nano will come in two flavors, with 8 or 16GB of built-in storage, priced at 149 and 179 US dollars respectively.

ipod shuffle

The iPod shuffle looks like the one introduced two years ago and unlike the last year generation, there are some clickable buttons this time. As before, its made of aluminum, features a built-in clip and comes in many vibrant colors (blue, green, orange, pink and silver).

The iPod shuffle is said to pack 2GB of memory and to cost 49 US dollars.

With all versions of Android 2.1 no matter the carrier or manufacturer skin, you will have this keyboard to use. It gets the job done for the most part, has the user dictionary to learn based on your typing so it knows what words to suggest, and has the usual trick of pressing a space or punctuation symbol when a word is highlighted to insert that word plus the space or punctuation symbol pressed. I will not go in to a great amount of detail about this keyboard because of how standard it is, but I would recommend using it for a couple of days before jumping in to one of these other options if you are new to android or smart phones in general. Every one is different and you need to get used to how to press keys on the screen before jumping in to more intermediate/advanced options.

Recommended Types of Users for this Keyboard: People new to the Android OS or smart phones in general (only use this for a couple of days though, once you’re comfortable typing, take a look at one of the options below).

Samsung Galaxy Tab has been officially announced just yesterday, but the price speculations are already all over the internet. Some retailers managed to put up some early  prices but May not be Exactly True!

main Samsung Galaxy Tab may cost between 700 and 800 euro, iPads can breath more easily

Samsung is already denying those prices and says it has not made any announcements on that matter yet. Still it seems its Swedish branch has suggested a retail price of 970 euro!

The UK retailer Expansys is offering the Galaxy Tab on 700 euro (16GB) and 800 euro (32GB). The device is supposed to ship on 11 October.

O2 and Vodafone

As a result two more operators, O2 and Vodafone, will start selling Apple phone as soon as the negotiations are finalized. While all carriers are selling older iPhones models, the latest iPhone 4 is exclusive to T-Mobile DE. Currently, its price starts from 1 euro when purchased together with a 2-year contract.

T-Mobile Germany has already sold good 1.9 million iPhones across the country despite the delayed iPhone 4 shipments (some customers had to wait 9 weeks for the coveted device).

Windows phone 7 texting

As we get ever closer to the launch of Windows Phone 7 we see more rumours of handsets, videos of them in action, reports of gaming functionality and so on. What we do not get to see a lot of though is the nuts and bolts of the OS itself and how the user will actually, well use the system. Step forth Pocket Now with a video of the SMS functionality in Windows Phone 7.

The video covers everything from receiving texts whilst the screen is off to receiving them whilst it is on to showing off the threaded messaging feature. It might just be our opinion, but Windows Phone 7 is looking pretty damned nice when it comes to SMS. Its a very clean interface that looks pretty slick and it even manages to make the iOS SMS system look a little out of touch. Enough words though, check out the video below to see for yourself.

Apple vs. Google

Apple. for all their PR wizardry, are not known for always sticking entirely to whats true. More correctly they are known for bending facts a little to fit their view of events. The latest such incident came during Apples media event just the other day when Steve Jobs announced that Apple was activating 230,000 devices a day. The reason this is important is because Google had recently announced they were activating 200,000 devices a day.

However, Steve Jobs was not content with saying that Google were behind Apple in activations, no he put a swift boot in by saying he did not believe Google numbers in the first place.

"
We think ome of our friends are counting upgrades in their numbers ... we think we are ahead of everyone"

Google was quick to issue a response to attempt to nullify Apples reality distortion field. A Google spokesman clarified the situation "
The Android activation numbers do not include upgrades and are, in fact, only a portion of the Android devices in the market since we only include devices that have Google services". Steve Jobs is wrong ?!

It was not just Googles mobile division that came in for a poke from Jobs, he had a jab at Google TV too. He lauded Apple TV's ability to bring customers 'Hollywood blockbusters' and popular TV shows, whilst saying they didn't want 'amateur hour'. That's a not so subtle reference to Google TV's ability to grab videos from just about anywhere, including amateur sites. Somewhat hypocritically Jobs was singing the praies of Apple TV being able to play YouTube movies and HD videos from YouTube. Isn't YouTube the king of all amteur video sites?

Swype provides a faster and easier way to input text on any screen. With one continuous finger or stylus motion across the screen keyboard, the patented technology enables users to input words faster and easier than other data input methods at over 40 words per minute. The application is designed to work across a variety of devices such as phones, tablets, game consoles, kiosks, televisions, virtual screens and more.

Swype and Nokia have been hard at work to deliver a limited beta release to Nokia S60 5th edition device owners.  Your feedback will be valuable to us in the coming weeks, and we are especially interested in how well Swype interfaces with the many types of applications you use every day. We all have seen enough home theater 3D already to be well and sick of it, but mobile 3D is still an upcoming sector, one which Sharp seems to be making a bid for. It's showing off a mobile device prototype with a glasses-free 3D parallax screen. The device screen and on a regular glasses-required 3D TV the prototype was outputting to over HDMI. The 3.7-inch LCD rocks a 800 x 480 resolution in 2D mode, which gets halved to 400 x 480 in 3D, and Sharp is also showing of a 10-inch glasses free LCD that didn't come off as so impressive somehow. This a Start of the 3D Innovation as All Manufactures will focus on the 3D vision and 3D screens too.

win7

Microsoft announced Windows Phone 7 is ready and released to manufacturing. Now its up to all of the company's partners to integrate the RTM version successfully with their upcoming devices.

As Microsoft reminds us, there is still a lot of work to be done before we see a device running Windows Phone 7 on the market. Microsoft partners, which have been working on the OS integration for quite some time, are now going to update them with the RTM version and continue the process until everything works like a charm.

"Today is the day that the Windows Phone team has been driving towards, and we are very excited to say that we’ve reached the biggest milestone for our internal team  the release to manufacturing (RTM) of Windows Phone 7!  While the final integration of Windows Phone 7 with our partners hardware, software, and networks is underway, the work of our internal engineering team is largely complete.

Windows Phone 7 is the most thoroughly tested mobile platform Microsoft has ever released.  We had nearly ten thousand devices running automated tests daily, over a half million hours of active self-hosting use, over three and a half million hours of stress test passes, and eight and a half million hours of fully automated test passes.  We’ve had thousands of independent software vendors and early adopters testing our software and giving us great feedback. We are ready." From the Windows Phone Blog.

After 3 Betas Apple Finally came out with the final version of the iOS 4.1 and has been released today. Its nothing too major, but let’s go down the additions:

  • Updated Game Center
  • HDR photos
  • HD video uploads over WiFi
  • TV show rentals

It should be arriving next week. iOS 4.2, which should bring multitasking, folders, and other functionality to the iPad, will be arriving in November.

WebOS2.0

webOS 2.0 is the next generation of Palm’s mobile operating system, and it brings a number of new features that developers are going to want to use and features to make using webOS devices better. This beta of webOS 2.0 is being made available to let developers start building apps that take advantage of the new feature, and will be released to users later this year.

Here is the Official Changes from Palm Developers Blog

Palm's groundbreaking card metaphor made multi-tasking on a handheld device easy and intuitive for the first time. webOS 2.0 takes it to the next level by grouping related cards in stacks, reducing clutter, and making it even easier to move quickly between tasks.

We've renamed Universal Search to Just Type and extended it to do much more. Quick Actions makes it easier than ever for your users to update social status, set reminders, add items to a shopping list - or do whatever it takes to get things done in the context of your app.

Exhibition is a webOS 2.0 feature designed to inform, entertain and delight you while your device is docked. Set your device on the Palm Touchstone Charging Dock, and it will enter a special full-screen mode optimized for passive enjoyment and utility. While a handful of compelling Exhibition options will be built into webOS 2.0, but we're counting on you and your fellow developers to make Exhibition truly great. You can add Exhibition support to an existing app, or build something new just for Exhibition.

In webOS 2.0, we're opening Synergy up to our developer ecosystem. You'll be able to develop Synergy connectors for Contacts, Calendar, and Messaging - and later, for other webOS data types as well. Using the new Synergy APIs, you can let your users:

Connect to your chat or IM network from the webOS Messaging app

Access their personal contacts, their favorite businesses, or your community's shared address book from the webOS Contacts UI

View and manage their personal and shared calendars, keep track of their favorite sports and entertainment events, and more, from within the webOS Calendar app

Roll your own services with Node.js: The popular Node.js runtime environment is built into webOS 2.0, which means that you can now develop not just webOS apps but also services in JavaScript. The active Node ecosystem is on hand to provide community support and a rapidly growing library of modules that you can use in your webOS services.

Today, you can use the webOS Plug-in Development Kit (PDK) to build games and immersive apps in C/C++. But the feature that gives the PDK its name-the ability to build C/C++ plug-ins for your HTML/JavaScript/CSS apps-is still in beta.

This feature will exit beta in webOS 2.0, opening the door for you to distribute apps that incorporate PDK plug-ins. Using plug-ins, you can more easily port app logic from other platforms while leveraging the Mojo Framework to give users a familiar interface and integrate seamlessly into webOS.

webOS 2.0 adds a number of new HTML5 features and enhancements, giving you more tools to work with when building apps and sites for webOS.

Don't think that this is all there is to webOS 2.0-these are just the highlights. We've added a lot of features that will give your apps more power and flexibility than ever. We're excited about what webOS 2.0 has to offer, and we think you will be, too!

HD Voice tst

HD Voice dramatically improves audio quality in a call and also reduces the background noise and hisses

Orange has already launched the HD Voice service in Moldova as a warm up to bigger markets, then Armenia and France too. And now the UK is getting high-quality calls too, at no extra cost.

You will need a compatible phone though Nokia 5230, Nokia X6, Nokia E5 and the Samsung OmniaPRO support HD Voice. There’s some bad news though only new ones will support it, so if you’ve bought one you’re out of luck you cannot just enable the feature. The most distinctive feature of the Motorola XT300, though, is its four-row slide-out QWERTY keyboard. As for the glowing red Droid eye on screen, it could mean that the XT300 will head for the Verizon stores at some point but word is there will definitely be a GSM version of the thing. There is no word on the other Motorola XT300 specs so far.

apple

After weeks of negative press and an eight percent drop in the companys stock price, Apple seems to be coming to terms with the fact that the iPhone 4 antenna issues are not going away.  The popular tech company is holding an impromptu press conference tomorrow morning at 10 AM PST (1 PM EST), presumably to discuss the game plan going forward.  Mum is the word on the details of the meeting, but I would be surprised if some sort of resolution is not announced tomorrow.

what do you think Apple will announce?  A complete recall?  Free bumpers for everyone?  Something in between?  Cast your vote and jot your thoughts down in the comments below...

Motorola warns every Droid X owner not to update with the leaked Android 2.2 ROM. The reason is simple there is no way you can update your device with the official firmware in September as you will not be able to Re-load the official Old load

main Dont update your DROID X with the leaked Android 2.2 ROM, says Motorola

we are not sure if Motorola will specifically exclude the devices updated with the leaked 2.2 ROM or its telling the truth and there is no way you could upgrade with the official ROM. One thing is sure if you can’t find a way to restore your previous firmware, you will be stuck with the leaked update.

The official Droid X Android 2.2 update will roll out in the early September. I guess the risk of trying leaked ROM is not worth it.

Viewsonic is the next manufacturer to join the tablet race with the announcement of the 7-inch ViewPad 7. Running on the latest reincarnation of the Android OS 2.2 Froyo the new tablet hold a regular SIM card and promises full 3G and phone functionality.

Bluetooth is also on board, as well as a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi and a GPS receiver. USB is also supported and the tablet has full access to the Android market.

Curiously enough Viewsonic does not mention the screen resolution (though we know its going to be an LCD unit) or the battery life. We guess we will have to wait a while longer to find out more about those quite important aspects of the tablet performance.

The Viewsonic ViewPad 7 first review samples will come in early October, Its price will not exceed 350 GBP including VAT.

intel deal

Intel is the worlds largest chipmaker, agreed to buy Infineon Technologies AGs wireless unit for about $1.4 billion, gaining a foothold in mobile-phone business it has struggled to crack for more than a decade.

The all-cash transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2011, Infineon, Europe second-largest semiconductor maker, said in a statement today.

The acquisition of Infineon unit, on the heels of Intel’s $7.68 billion purchase of security software maker McAfee builds on Chief Executive Officer Paul Otellini’s plans to break the company’s reliance on the personal-computer market. Intel wants to get its processors into smartphones, such as Apple iPhone, a handset that uses an Infineon radio chip.

Infineon is selling a unit that has struggled to turn a profit, letting it focus on areas where it can grab the biggest market share. Infineon trails San Diego-based Qualcomm Inc., which dominates the market for chips that control radio functions in phones.

Intel, which generated $3.49 billion in cash from operations in the second quarter, ended the period with more than $18 billion in reserve. The McAfee purchase is a cash transaction.

Nokia C6-01 is a Modification Higher-version of the Nokia C6-00 and a Lower version of the N8 thats mean its on the Middle.  Look for the new C6 to get official with a very nice price either at Nokia World 2010 which kicks off September 14th in London. One more front-side pic after the break. it has an 8MP camera with 3G, Wifi, Bluetooth and a Touchscreen similar to the 5800XM and its told to run the Symbian^3 OS when its release.

The phone will be officially announced on Nokia World 2010 which kicks off September 14th in London. the phone.

The Nokia C6 is now available in the UK from Vodafone. Not long ago, it started to be available from Nokia, and now its time turn to sell this midrange side-sliding QWERTY packing touchscreen smartphone.

Its free on new 24-month contracts starting at £20/month. You can order it from Vodafone UK Online Store

The C6 is unfortunately stuck with Symbian^1 and 128 MB of RAM, which means heavy multitasking is not that feasible. If you do not mind having to always remember when to tap and when to double tap something and do not plan on using dozens of apps at the same time this is a decent smartphone.

There will also be an SD expansion slot and a DMB TV tuner inside the aluminum-clad tablet. with 3MP camera will also be at your disposal, while the resolution of the display will be WVGA.

The highlights of the specs sheet continue with 512 MB of RAM, a built-in GPS, and standard miniUSB data and 3.5mm audio connectors. The built-in Wi-Fi antenna will support the b, g and n standards, while the 4000 mAh battery promises up to 72 hours of stand or 3.5 hours of video playback (which is quite modest if you ask us).

Samsung has just announced the next member of the Wave family, the Samsung S7230E Wave 723. Like its more expensive brother, the S8500 Wave, the Wave 723 will also be based on the Bada platform.

While it does not have a Super AMOLED touchscreen, the newbie still manages to impress with its feature pack. As mentioned above, the Wave 723 runs the Bada OS (with the TouchWiz 3.0) and developers can use the Bada SDK 1.1 to create applications for the upcoming device. By the way, the new SDK automatically downscales the UI of apps made for the first Bada-loving smartphone, theSamsung S8500 Wave, so that they match the resolution of the new entry level smartphone.

The Samsung S7230E Wave 723 smartphone is expected to start shipping in September and it will be selling for about 240 Euro.

Galaxy S

After the several leaked Froyo updates for the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S we can finally welcome the first supplied via the Samsung KIES desktop software. Meanwhile, the company announced it's sold over a million units of the various Galaxy S incarnations on the US market in less than two months.

The Samsung Galaxy S is known under one too many names in the US. AT&T customers know it as theSamsung i897 Captivate, T-Mobile calls it the Samsung Vibrant, while Sprint is about to sell it as the QWERTY-fied Samsung Epic 4G. As for Verizon, it's launching its Galaxy S version as the Samsung Fascinate in September.

As for the Android 2.2 update, its not the first official Froyo update for the Galaxy S we see but it's the only one (so far) that comes directly through the company's Kies software. We went ahead and installed the new firmware (version I9000XXJPC) and so far we're pleased with it. It still needs some final touches - we experienced some occasional freezes and lags (nothing major, though).

State Farm might be an insurance company that like any other preys on the misfortunes of everyday people to make a huge profit, but that does not mean they don’t have your safety as an interest. Take the inclusion of a new (On the Move) widget in the latest version of their Pocket Agent app for example. While they aren’t to first to devise an app or widget that will auto-respond to texts in various situations, it certainly does a pretty good job. Of course the aim is to get you to leave your phone alone while in transit, allowing a pre-set message to answer for you, but you could get some other uses out of it too, say when you are in the movies or at a meeting.

Take a look at the new Google Voice widget for Android 2.2 that would come bundled into the firmware of the T-Mobile G2. It turns out that was just the setting portion of the widget, which will also display the text of recently-transcribed voicemail. One of our readers was kind enough to boot up the leaked Froyo ROM for the G2 and snap some screenies of what we can expect come September 29th. It is not anything necessarily earth shattering considering that it looks the same as any other vanilla Android 2.2 we have seen but there are a few additions worth mentioning.

You will see that while HTC Sense is not present on the device, HTC Calibrate is still present. We also get a look at the standard TMo apps that will come on the device. This should give Android-purists that love HTC hardware something to get truly excited about. Feel free to peruse the images below at your own leisure.

The rumored Toshiba Folio 100 Android tablet (a.k.a. Toshiba SmartPad) that first showed up this Monday just surfaced once again. And this time there is the full specs sheet coming along with the leaked images.

main Rumored Android powered Toshiba SmartPad tablet to actually be called Folio 100, full specs inside

The Toshiba tablet line will obviously be called Folio (as opposed to the previously rumored name, SmartPad. The first tablet to come, the Folio 100, will be based on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 platform, which should allow it to munch HD videos for breakfast.

folio top and bottom

Unlike the 7-inch Samsung Glalaxy Tab, the Folio 100 should feature a 10.1-inch multi-touch-capable capacitive touchscreen of WSVGA resolution (1024 x 600 pixels).

maina Rumored Android powered Toshiba SmartPad tablet to actually be called Folio 100, full specs inside

The tablet will run the Android 2.2 (a.k.a. Froyo) and under the hood there should also be built-in stereo speakers, mic and a front-facing camera, 16GB of storage (expandable through a microSDHC card slot) and a Flash-capable web browser. Also include 3G, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth plus a HDMI-, USB- and miniUSB-port dock.

Therefore, there are four days left to the announcement of the Samsung P1000 or the Galaxy Tab and the rumor marathon continues at full strength. This time it’s the accessories that Samsung will release along with their first tablet.

gsmarena 001 Samsung Galaxy Tab accessories surface, will have a CDMA variety as well

The available extras for the Galaxy Tab (or at least the ones we know about) start with a leather carrying case, priced at 41 euro (ouch!). Then there’s a desktop dock with HDMI port and some kind of audio jack, which will set you back 53 euro.

A full-size 83-key keyboard that you can attach to the Samsung Galaxy Tab will go for 82 euro. There will also be a car charger, a TV-out cable and a white headset, but their pricing is still unknown. Also as an official announcement a CDMA version of the Galaxy tab will be available too with the release but in different Model Number.

Dell front

The Dell Aero is unlike any other Android phone you ever used. It does not feel like Android with a skin on top. It feels more like a feature phone with Android beneath. If you are looking for a phone that is slim and light and packed with features, read on for my in-depth impressions of Dell entry into the world of smartphones.

Dell

Screen

The screen on the Dell Aero looks great. The 3.5-inch display pushes 640 by 360 pixels, which is an unusual resolution for Android devices, but not unheard of. Text looks sharp on the Dell Aero, and pictures look colorful and bright. Outdoors, the screen still performed well. It was easily visible in bright sunlight, and the LCD on the Aero bested the OLED screen on my Nexus One by a mile.

Sound

Sound quality on the Dell Aero was also outstanding. My phone calls sounded great. Callers sounded up close and personal on my end. Tones could be a bit warm, with more bass than treble sound, but this wasn’t unpleasant. On their end, my callers reported a slight, occasional hiss, but nothing serious. The speaker on the Dell Aero is also nice and loud. It could distort at the highest volumes, but this was mostly a problem with music. Speakerphone conversations sounded good, even over loud car noise. Ringtones were also loud and clear.

The phone uses ring profiles, a feature that most Android phones lack. I found the profiles difficult to manage; they required lots of menu digging when I just wanted to tap and go. If you want the phone to vibrate, you cannot simply turn down the volume until the phone shakes. You have to dig through the sound profiles to “ring and vibrate," or just "vibrate."

Signal

The Dell Aero had no trouble connecting to AT&T’s 3G network. Almost all of my calls went through with no trouble, though a few times the call would fail after dialing and I had to send the call again. Incoming calls found me every time.

The phone was a bit shaky on the data network. Testing the network speed, the phone might be nice and fast one moment, then slow to a crawl the next. Data never stopped completely, but a few consecutive runs of SpeedTest bore this out. Data speeds were simply inconsistent, even sitting still.

I also had trouble with the phone’s Wi-Fi connection. The first time I connected to my home network, everything worked just fine. After a restart, the phone would not connect automatically. When I tried to connect from the Wi-Fi menu, the pop-up screen that asks if you want to Connect, Forget or Cancel the connection did not work; the buttons would not register my taps. I tried multiple restarts, but I was never again able to connect properly.

The iPad is setting the standard for the revived tablet market. What is it about Apple that makes these products so great? In part it is Apple dedication to user experience; but would it be argue that the larger factor in their success is Apple end-to-end control of the product. They make the hardware and the operating systems, and build the two to work in near-perfect synchronicity. A lot of CrunchGear commenters say they’re really waiting for a Windows 7 tablet to compete with the iPad, but I say they will be waiting for a long, long time: Windows 7 on the multitude of tablet hardware options will be just like Windows 7 on desktop PCs: an appeal to the lowest common denominator, thereby hobbling both hardware and OS advances. (And I actually like Windows 7, so belay the Apple fanboy comments for a moment.) But what about an Ubuntu tablet? The svelt, modular Linux kernel has breathed new life into many aging PCs, and Canonical has been working on a netbook-specific interface for Ubuntu for some time. They have multitouch support, now, too, so couldn’t they pretty quickly roll out a wonderful Ubuntu-powered tablet.

The multitouch stuff in Ubuntu is interesting in its own right, since they are developing a whole "touch language" that will allow for chaining touch sequences into sentences of complex actions. I’m actually quite excited to see how this develops, especially since the multi-touch libraries are hosted on Launchpad for public consumption and participation. More on this below.

RIM has yet to introduce the 9780, but all indications are that this model will be a Bold Refresh with a few changes to the Bold 9700. As we reported, the new device offers many of the same specs seen on the 9700 such as the 2.44 inch screen with resolution of 480 x 360 pixels, and a 624MHz processor. The changes include an upgrade to a 5MP camera and a doubling of RAM to 512MB. And of course, we can't forget the new BlackBerry 6 OS and the companion WebKit browser, both delivering major multimedia improvements to Bold owners ready to move up to the new model.

Speculation is that the handset will be launched in October. Also all carriers and perhaps AT&T as well, to offer the BlackBerry 9780 Bold Refresh. That is, once RIM gets around to introducing the unit.

iphone pay

Intuit, the maker of the popular QuickBooks and TurboTax software, has approached the accessory maker Mophie, and they have both come up with a card reader and application for the iPhone that allows small businesses to accept credit card payments on the go with their iPhone.

GoPayment has been on the market for more than a year and has already processed $35 million in transactions for small businesses. In addition to faster merchant account activation and integration with QuickBooks Mac, this latest version offers easier navigation with the ability for customers to sign their bill via the iPhone touch screen.

Its also possible to now add inventory items to receipts, which can instantly be e-mailed or sent by text to a customer for their records. To make GoPayment affordable for the smallest of small businesses, it also offers new simplified pricing with competitive discount rates and transaction fees.

Microsoft Developer training has published this video discussing the built-in security features of Windows Phone 7. While the device has the basic ability to enforce a PIN and other user policies, the primary security feature is the Isolated storage, enforced by the operating system, which means one malicious application will not be able to read the data of another, except by going through vetted launchers and pickers.

The OS does however lack an encrypted file system, but the OS does come with many build-in encryption algorithms which does make it easy for developers to keep user data safe even if the handset falls in the wrong hands.

Today a video Released online demoing the email client in Windows Phone 7, but unfortunately made the grave mistake of saying the software did not support HTML email.

A developer concerned that this misconception will spread across the internet has sent us this video (which we uploaded, apologies for the rotation) showing how HTML e-mail is handled in Windows Phone 7, and also showing the simple process of searching e-mail.

Both are handled in exactly the same way as on Windows Mobile, in particular the user still has to request to download pictures an annoying but security conscious feature in Windows Phone 7 which we have covered here previously.
