GetJar: Android to trump iPhone two-to-one

Mobile app store GetJar released data from their commissioned global survey, giving insight into the "preferences and attitudes of mobile phone users." Unsurprisingly the results suggest we should put our money on Android with almost 40% of respondents saying they will switch to Google mobile platform when they purchase their next phone, compared to the 18% who said they would like to switch to the iPhone.

In terms of app usage, GetJar findings show almost 34% of consumers spending one hour or more using apps per day, compared to 49% who spend the same amount of time watching TV. Moreover, 58% of respondents use mobile apps more than once a day.

Other survey results include:

  • Almost 80% said that the quality of the brand app makes the brand more trustworthy, while 72% said they were more likely to engage with a brand if they had a good app.
  • When it comes to in-app ads, users apparently do not mind seeing them 73% said they have downloaded an app with advertising in it, and almost 60% said they would do it again. Almost 25% made a purchase after having clicked on a mobile ad.
  • Only 25% of respondents discovered the apps they were looking for using actual app stores 50% had discovered apps while browsing online and nearly 17% through friends or social media.
  • Gaming apps are the most popular, followed closely by social networking apps.
  • The cost of an app was the biggest deciding factor in whether to download an app or not.

Yesterday news of ATT placing a bid on Deutsche Telekom magenta-loving carrier may have made some of you suspect that T-Mobile USA would slow down its game a bit. This is obviously not the case as today the carrier announced the dual-core T-Mobile G2x and Nokia Astound at the CTIA Wireless in Orlando, Florida.

The T-Mobile G2x is essentially identical to the dual-core Tegra 2-packing LG Optimus 2X, but for the T-Mobile branding and the supported 3G bands. Hardcore Android fans out there will be happy to know that, as expected, T-Mobile will release the dual-core Tegra 2 packing G2x with stock Android 2.2.

The device should become available later this spring, but if you do not want to wait that long, just hit the link to our thorough review of the LG Optimus 2X. Its the same thing.

Apple announced the death to MobileMe as we knew it a few weeks ago and speculations about the future of the service have not stopped ever since. This latest rumor just came in and it says MobileMe is going to become free and get deep iOS integration.

The iLounge source claims that Apple will turn MobileMe into a free cloud-based service for photos, videos, and music service, which sounds pretty cool to us. It is said to be deeply integrated into the next major edition of iOS 5.0, which should be announced sometime next month.

Apple has also confirmed that it will be offering a one-year support for the existing version of MobileMe so if you paid the $100 for it, you can be sure that Apple will honor their part of the agreement.
