For some owners of Motorola resilient smartphone the Defy, the wait is finally over. Those on T-Mobile in US are finally getting the Froyo 2.2 update that some Android users have been enjoying since as far back as summer last year.
The Defy shipped with Eclair 2.1 and, at the time, offered plenty of bang for your buck. However as time passed and competition improved the smartphone started slipping down the ranks. Fortunately now Motorola are bringing the Defy first update, which will help it regain some ground.
The Android 2.2 Froyo update is available over the air. You can get it by going to "About Phone" in the device Settings menu and hitting "System Software Updates". The download itself is around 112MB so its advised to get it onto your handset whilst connected over Wi-Fi or using an appropriate data plan.
The Defy Android Froyo 2.2 update brings benefits such as Wi-Fi Hotspot functionality, Flash support and allows you to install apps to the SD card as well. On top of these blanket improvements, Motorola have also been tinkering and tweaking the Defy performance and have added new profiles, each with three customisable home screens, contacts search from your dialler, LinkedIn account integration to your contacts, social networking and messaging updates and revamped gallery UI.
The Motorola Atrix 4G launched in the US a week ago and now the euro version (Atrix) has a launch date for the UK where it will be exclusive to Orange. The two cool docks will be available at reduced price with certain plans.
We have covered the Motorola Atrix in our review so all that remains to say is that the difference between the Atrix and the Atrix 4G is the name. Both have the same network speed, the 4G (HSPA+ in reality) is a marketing gimmick.
Anyway, you can reserve a unit in Orange shops or just sign up for updates about the Motorola Atrixhere. The phone will be available in May on a £35/mo 2-year contract with 600 minutes and 750MB data.

If you still think that a powerful smartphone transforming into a netbook through an add-on is a great idea, but too pricey you might be in luck. The Motorola Atrix 4G for ATT is going for $50 just for this weekend and you get a coupon for $100 off the laptop dock.
When the Motorola Atrix 4G launched in the US, itcommanded $130. Now Amazon Wireless is offering the super Moto for just $50 on a individual or family account for new customers. Upgrades for existing are $100 or $130. Just the phone costs $600. Plans for ATT Motorola Atrix 4G start at $40.
The Laptop Dock for the Atrix 4G is available on Amazonfor $400 right now but with the $100 off coupon, you can get that down to more acceptable levels. Still, thats pretty close to the price of a standalone fully functional Android tablet.
NOTE: If you are getting confused by all the 4G talk, the Motorola Atrix 4G supports HSPA+, which AT&T has labeled 4G. In reality, its a fraction below 4G.
The T-Mobile G2x went official last month but we still do not have an official launch date. We do have an unofficial one though thanks to some leaked materials from T-Mobile next Friday, 15 April, is the purported launch date.
The Tegra 2 powered droid is the T-Mobile cousin of the LG Optimus 2X. As such, the T-Mobile G2xpacks a dual-core 1GHz CPU, 8MP still camera with FullHD (1080p) video recording.
How much those specs are translated in terms of money is not clear at this point, but if those leaked materials are legit we will be seeing the G2x hitting T-Mobile shelves by the end of next week.
