Motorola Atrix Bell Motorola Atrix Gets Official for Bell $170, Starting March 17

The Motorola Atrix has been getting busy down in the US, but until today, those of us north of the border were out in the cold. As usual. Bell recently announced the exclusive availability of the Motorola Atrix, and its little dock too. It will go for $169.95 on a three-year contract starting March 17. Not quite the $129 ATT is asking with a two-year contract, but we are gluttons for punishment in Canada.

The Motorola Atrix is quite the beast it packs a dual-core 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, 4-inch 540 x 960 display, 16 GB of internal storage plus microSD memory card, gigantic 1930 mAh battery, 5 megapixel camera plus front-facing video cam, runs Android 2.2, plus the usual stuff like Wi-Fi, GPS, and HSPA+ 3G.  As if that were not enough, the thing got a fingerprint reader on the back, HDMI-out to get your videos onto your TV, and can plug into a pretty neat laptop dock for when you want a bigger screen and a keyboard. We have got a hands-on video over here, if you want to take a look.

Bell loses some brownie points for using the god-awful term "superphone", and a few more for calling the Atrix HSPA+ support 4G, but I guess that was bound to happen sooner or later. As a part of the launch, Bell is giving away one of five Motorola Atrix prize packs, which includes the phone, the lapdock, and the HDMI multimedia dock.

Somebody spotted a Wi-Fi version of the Motorola Xoom at a US store. The tablet is listed with a retail price of $539, which is a lot less than the CDMA variety available at Verizon.

Meanwhile in Europe the Motorola Xoom showed up in its entire connectivity-full suite in the UK and Germany. You may recall our previous article on the Xoom hitting Europe via pre-orders in the UK.

The 3GZFi version of the Xoom is priced at £599.99 in The Carphone Warehouse for the UK and €699.95 in Germany, courtesy of Amazon. Mind you both are SIM-free offers with pre-order prices. Amazon does not specify a date for delivery and The Carphone Warehouse states early April.

The Motorola Xoom is one of the hottest slates out there on the market, even after the iPad 2 was announced a couple of days ago. The Xoom comes with the tablet-oriented Android 3.0 Honeycomb, dual-core processing power and HD video prowess.

Motorola Flipout and Charm users, we have to break out some bad news. Motorola will not be bringing out a Froyo update to your devices. Yes, it sucks, but Moto has long stated that their users should buy their devices for what they are worth and now rely on a future vrsion update. Lame, but true.

Unfortunately the Flipout and the Charm are never going to taste the yummy Froyo that other phones have had in their possession since day one. There is only one thing to do now hope that some good-hearted developer will make a custom Froyo ROM for both phones.

With Android 2.3 Gingerbread starting to roll by the competition, And most importantly when. Information is scarce at the moment, but we hope Moto makes up for all the software update pain it has caused to its users, eventually.

Motorola Atrix 4G

Good market economy never stops working for consumers. With major carriers in the US fighting for the hearts, minds and ultimately wallets of the mobile users, smartphone prices keep going down.

Our latest catch is ATT Motorola Atrix 4G which is now available for $129 on Amazon.com. A two-year contract is required but this is still an awesome deal that gets you a dual-core powered Android smartphone with gorgeous qHD (960×540) pixels capacitive touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera, front-facing camera for video calls, GPS, HSPA+, Bluetooth, sensors and "all that jazz."

xoom wifi 539 WiFi Motorola Xoom to retail for $539 at Sams Club

Droid-life got their hands on some promotional signage from Sam Club that suggests the WiFi version of the Motorola Xoom will retail for a mere $539. The information was reportedly obtained from a "Year Beginning" meeting of employees. A launch date was not mentioned, but the WiFi Xoom is expected to land in Europe in early April. It would only make sense that Motorola would launch the Xoom around that date in the U.S. That timing allows Verizon almost six weeks of exclusivity with the 3G version and it is not too long after the debut of its primary competitor, the iPad 2.

This price point, if true, would make the WiFi Xoom extremely competitive with the iPad 2. On paper, the Xoom specs are slightly higher than the iPad and its price point could potentially be lower. The Xoom is available with 32 GB of onboard storage may retail for $539, while the same configuration iPad 2 sells for $599. Unless you are die-hard Apple fan, the Xoom is a better value at these prices.

It would be a mistake not to mention that these prices are not confirmed. Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha hinted that the WiFi Xoom would retail for $599, but this $539 undercuts his estimate. While this price may be Motorola answer to the iPad 2, it is equally likely that this lower price point may be a Sam Club exclusive designed to lure people into the store. Additionally, the signage may not reflect the final price as it may have been chosen for demonstration purposes only. We will just to wait with bated breath for Motorola to announce additional details on the WiFi Xoom. Hopefully, the details are revealed before the iPad 2 launch on March 11th so potential Xoom customers do not get lured away by the magical iPad.
