Google’s Gemini app just got a fun and surprisingly heartwarming upgrade. You can now create personalized, illustrated storybooks with AI-generated narration just by describing the story you want.
Aimed at families and kids, this new feature starts with a simple prompt: “Describe any story you can imagine.” You can even upload personal content like photos or drawings to make it more meaningful. Gemini can then turn your idea into a 10-page storybook, complete with custom visuals and a read-aloud voice.
According to Google, here are some ways you can use it:
- Help your child understand a complex topic: Create a story that explains the solar system to my 5 year old.
- Teach a lesson through storytelling: Teach a 7-year-old boy about the importance of being kind to his little brother. My son loves elephants so let’s make the main character an elephant.
- Bring personal artwork to life: Upload an image of a kid’s drawing and modify this example prompt for your use case: “This is my kid’s drawing. He’s 7 years old. Write a creative storybook that brings his drawing to life.”
- Turn memories into magical stories: Upload photos from your family trip to Paris and create a personalized adventure.
Once you submit a prompt, Gemini gives you a quick preview. Then it asks if you’d like to turn it into a storybook. If you say yes, Gemini loads a dual-pane interface with the illustrated story on one side and a chat on the other, where you can tweak the writing or change the art style.
Available art styles include pixel art, comic book, claymation, crochet, coloring book, and more. You can also choose between different voice narration styles, including higher or lower-pitched options.
You can share your finished book via a link or download it to print. The best part is that it supports over 45 languages and works globally across the Gemini app on both mobile and desktop.
