Samsung just basically confirmed when Apple’s foldable iPhone is launching, and it might be sooner than you think. According to South Korean publication ChosunBiz, Samsung Display president Lee Cheong announced that the company is prepping for mass production of foldable OLED screens for “a North American client.”
While he didn’t name Apple specifically, there aren’t many other companies big enough to warrant an announcement like this. Google already makes a foldable phone and has no reason to be secretive. Cheong also mentioned that “the second half of the year is when key clients release flagship new products,” which lines up perfectly with Apple’s usual September iPhone event. Translation: the foldable iPhone is coming in 2026.
Reports suggest the device will feature a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch external screen. Think of it as stacking two iPhone Airs together. The smaller outer display handles quick tasks, while the larger inner screen transforms it into a mini iPad for serious work.
Apple recently launched the iPhone Air, the thinnest iPhone ever made. There’s a perception that this was essentially half of a foldable iPhone. Stack two of them together, and you get a pretty good idea of what Apple’s working on.
If you want one, start saving now. The foldable iPhone launch is expected to come with a hefty price tag. JPMorgan predicts it could cost around $1,999 or more, putting it in the same price range as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. Apple typically waits until the technology matures before jumping in, so expect this to be polished but expensive.
