Oura announced the Ring 4 Ceramic collection today. This marks a significant expansion for the company beyond traditional metallic smart rings. The new lineup features four colors crafted from zirconia ceramic. This premium material is typically reserved for high-end jewelry and watchmaking.
The Oura Ring 4 Ceramic collection costs $499. It comes in Cloud, Midnight, Petal, and Tide colors. Unlike standard rings that use surface coatings, the ceramic’s color comes from minerals embedded directly in the material. This means the finish won’t fade or wear off over time. It addresses a common complaint with coated rings.
Oura’s Chief Design Officer explained the company’s unique positioning. Oura operates at the intersection of jewelry design, fashion, and industrial design. This distinguishes it from competitors who treat smart rings purely as consumer electronics. The zirconia ceramic material has a Mohs hardness rating of 8.5 out of 10. That makes it harder than steel while remaining lightweight and biocompatible.
The company also introduced the Oura Ring 4 Charging Case for $99. It stores up to five full charges in a pocket-sized form factor. This addresses a gap where competitors already offered portable charging cases. Samsung’s Galaxy Ring and RingConn already had this feature. Samsung is currently investigating a battery swelling issue with the Galaxy Ring. The problem sent one user to the hospital, raising safety concerns for the category.
Oura members can now pair multiple Ring 4 devices under a single account. The new Multi-Ring Support feature makes this possible. Users can switch between different colors depending on their outfit or activity. They won’t lose tracking continuity. The feature rolled out on iOS on October 1. Android support arrives October 20.
Oura introduces Health Panels
The most substantial update is Health Panels. This $99 blood testing service screens over 50 biomarkers. These include cardiovascular health, metabolic function, inflammation, and organ function markers. Oura partnered with Quest Diagnostics to offer testing at approximately 2,000 U.S. locations. Results get delivered directly to the Oura App and analyzed by AI-powered Oura Advisor.
Health Panels represents Oura’s evolution from a consumer wearable into a comprehensive health management platform. The service connects objective lab results with daily behavioral data collected by the ring. It provides personalized recommendations for improving specific health markers like cholesterol or A1C levels.
The Ceramic Collection continues using Smart Sensing technology from the standard Oura Ring 4. This technology adapts to finger position for accurate continuous data collection. Battery life remains at five to eight days per charge. The ceramic rings are slightly thicker at 3.5mm compared to the titanium versions. They ship with a polishing pad since ceramic can pick up marks from softer metals.
