Nokia has just released the white color version of its MeeGo flagship. The white Nokia N9 was officially announced at this year Nokia World, but it's only now that you can actually purchase one.

We were contacted by one of our readers, who found white Nokia N9 units in a couple of Finnish retail stores. For now these only come in 64GB flavor but at least cost only as much as their black siblings €629.90.

No one likes waiting for software updates, but preparing such an update for release turns out to be a tougher ordeal than most people suspect. Sony Ericsson detailed their procedure of updating, which explains why we will have to wait a while before they release the promised Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update, even though the ICS source code has been out for weeks.

The first stage is to merge the changes brought about by ICS into Sony Ericsson own source code and to resolve any issues that might arise from the merge.

ICS has been optimized for Texas Instruments, so Sony Ericsson has to throw those parts out and replace them with equivalent parts for the Qualcomm 8255 chipset, which they used across the 2011 Xperia lineup.

ISyncr

iTunes is exclusively for iPod and iPhone users, but that does not mean it has any Android syncing features built in. iSyncr is a great app for keeping your iTunes library synced to your Android handset, wirelessly. It supports selective playlist sync and automatic syncing. Here is a Quick Tutorial of the iSyncr!

What Is Syncing?

Sync is short for synchronization: keeping things up to date and coordinated across more than one device.

A great example would be how Apple portable devices sync. Once they are plugged into iTunes they receive all of the new content available on their PC on their mobile device in a few clicks. Sadly, Android phones come with no built in iTunes-syncing capabilities, but with a community like Android it was not long before a developer bridged the gap!

Getting Started

Apart from obvious basics, such as an Android device and a memory card, you will need just one app: iSyncr. It is not free, but once you begin to use it you will realise that the small price you pay is nothing compared to how much easier copying your music and videos and songs to your phone is.

iSyncr also has several add-ons such as WiFi syncing and a Mac version, but for this walkthrough I will be sticking with basic iSyncr package.

Step 1: Setting Up the App

iSyncr is a very simple app so the set up is relatively painless. Once you have installed the app (Download links Below), just open it. You will then be presented with an installation screen as detailed in the screenshots below.

The basic setup for iSyncr

Ensure that "install to USB storage" is selected, as this is necessary for your computer to detect the software. Once the installation has completed you will be redirected back to a grid of icons, each with a different function. These icons are not of much use unless the PC software is corrupt so we can leave them alone for now.

Step 2: Selecting What to Sync

Now you just need to sync your Music, Video and playlists.

To do this just plug your device in to your computer and mount the USB storage. Open the root folder of your phone and you will see a new file called "iSyncr.exe". This is the file that the installation process above installed for us; open it and you will be presented with a list of your iTunes playlists.

How to select what to sync

Now just select the playlists that you want to be copied to your phone. As you select your playlists you will see that the bar at the bottom of the window will begin to fill with the more playlists that you select: this represents the amount of space on your phone storage, and how much of that space will be taken up by your music.

Step 3: Beginning the Sync

Once you have all the media that you want accessible on your phone selected, and have ensured that there is sufficient space left on your device, click the "Sync" button. You will notice iTunes open on your computer automatically, and iSyncr will begin showing its progress on the sync.

While you are waiting for this to finish, feel free to minimize iTunes and do something else. Depending on the amount of items you selected to sync the time taken will vary greatly. For my 2GB of music it normally rests around the 20 minutes mark, which is very reasonable. Once it has completed syncing you can disconnect your phone.

Step 4: What Next

Once you have your first sync done and everything has been copied over successfully you are ready to enjoy a life free of drag-and-drop!

iSyncer Has a lot of very useful Free plug-ins that you can get form the market (Links below).

XXX

ICANN started the process of approving the new .xxx domain name back in March of this year. After months of waiting people that wanted to buy the new domains can now officially get them. The addresses ending in .xxx are specifically for porn sites and was intended to allow people to identify and avoid porn sites or make it easier to find them depending on your perspective.

Already about 100,000 of the domains have been sold in a restricted sale that started in September. At least two of the big porn firms online have filed suit over the sale of .xxx domains. The ICM registry that oversaw the sale claims that the suits are without merit. The two suits claim that the industry did not need an .xxx domain and the decision to make one was flawed.

The update should allow the Launcher Ex to play nice with the host Ice Cream Sandwich smartphones and tablets, which are bound to come at the start of 2012. You get a new Dockbar, the option to create folders by dragging an app onto another on your homescreen and some new transition effects.

Nokia Maps 3D

Nokia unveiled its Nokia Maps 3D back in April of this year and they were certainly cool. Nokia has announced some really cool new features. One of the new features is the ability for the user to search for local attractions, restaurants, and shops. That means you can see the shop you want to visit and then get directions how to get there.

The directions are given on maps with photorealistic views of the locations you are looking for. You do have to install a plug-in to get the 3D maps. After installing that plug-in, you can enter addresses in the search field as well as business names and points of interest you want to see. It will then find the thing you are looking for and put it on the screen for you to check out.

SE ICS

The first of several tweets by Sony employee Siddharth Sai G said that Ice Cream Sandwich should be expected to be available the first week in January for all 2011 Xperia handsets. The current range of Xperia smartphones released this year is Xperia active, arc, arc S, mini, mini pro, neo, neo V, Play, pro, Xperia ray and Live with Walkman. According to the same Sony employee, Sony Ericsson is also planning a skinless version of ICS for 2011/2012 line of devices. That is probably not going to happen as the software and services bundled with their Xperia phones is one of Sony Ericsson strengths.

Last week Sony Ericsson Italy posted a contrary post on Facebook saying the ICS was expected to be available around March 2012. We will not hold our breath while waiting, and the official channel for such Sony Ericsson announcement are as usual over at the Sony Ericsson product blog. They have not said anything about a future update since November 15th when the company promised free update for all Xperia 2011 models.

The smartphone codenamed Nozomi, will sport a dual-core CPU, clocked at 1.5 GHz, a 12 megapixel camera and a 4.3-inch 720p screen. It will offer 1GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, but there will be no microSD card slot, so you will not be able to expand that. We are looking at here is the first image of the BlackBerry Milan, a slide-up QWERTY keyboard revealing BBX 10 device that shows the future of RIM-made smartphones in several clearly new features both in image and in rumor surrounding the device. The image is from CrackBerry where writer Kevin Michaluk notes he also has a set of tips on the device that make it a good indicator of what is to come from RIM in 2012. Rounded corners looking like the PlayBook and a higher density pixel array through the display are but two of the innovations coming down the chute.

On the bottom of the device you will find slightly sharper corners looking much more like what wehave heard about the "BlackBerry London" and the whole device is set to rack up what very much appears to be the tallest smartphone on earth award

However, legacy apps for the traditional Windows desktop will not be supported: instead, the store will offer Metro-style software. Siri has now been ported to the iPhone 4, but this is no official Apple undertaking, but the work of Chinese hackers from CD-Team. The best part about it is that it works and is available on the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G, so be warned that trying it on an older device like the iPhone 3GS is just a waste of time.

As you already heard Cydia, you have probably rightly guessed that the first requirement for getting all of this to work is to jailbreak your device. Users have already tried it and have confirmed that it works. Some of them have complained about problems with the camera after installing the package, but allegedly there is already a fix for that, which again you can find at the source below. Before you get too excited, though, we would like to remind you that for newbies this might not be easy and it could void your warranty. The rest fellow adventurous geeks can proceed with caution.

Apple attempts to have Samsung smartphones and tablets banned from sale in the US have been rejected in the US courts, with a ruling late on Friday throwing out the possibility of a preliminary injunction. "It is not clear that an injunction on Samsung accused devices would prevent Apple from being irreparably harmed" US District Judge Lucy Koh concluded in the San Jose court.

Reuters reports, arguing that Apple had not sufficiently demonstrated that its design patents would not be overturned in the eventual trial.

YouTube received a more polished design yesterday that focuses the user attention on the channels he/she follows and adds a video feed that reminds slightly of a twitter feed. The new homepage consists of a predominating gray background, bigger video thumbnails and a cleaner video watch page.

The redesign comes with a fresh homepage that has a dedicated channel bar on the left, displaying the ones you are subscribed to, trending, popular, music-oriented and entertainment ones, and ones that YouTube suggests to you based on your viewing activity.

You can also link your Google+ and Facebook profiles to get suggestions based on your friends activities. In the center of the new YouTube page you get a video feed from the channels you are currently subscribed to, displaying videos sorted by channel.

Sources from Microsoft has informed us that the public Windows 8 beta will be released in late February of 2012.

The timing of the public beta launch has been the subject of much debate in the technology community. It is expected that Windows 8 will be released in 2012, but the exact expected date for the completion and shipping of the forthcoming operating system remains undisclosed.

Microsoft estimating that Windows 8 should be released to manufacturers (RTM) in June. Given the newly known late February planned beta release, our estimate remains possible, if perhaps a bit optimistic.

Win8 ARM Tablet

Microsoft is considering dropping support for regular software on Windows 8 on ARM tablets, according to the latest leaks, leaving owners of the slates with only Metro-style apps to play with. Contrary to original suggestions from Microsoft, that developers although having to rewrite their x86 software to suit ARM chipsets would be able to release regular, desktop versions of their apps for Windows 8 tablets, that decision now looks like it will be reversed, ZDNet reports. It is suggested the turnaround could be part of Microsoft strategy to better challenge Apple iPad with consumer-centric devices.

Win8 ARM Tablet

Microsoft has said that Windows 8 ARM tablet owners would have a choice when it came to software. The new OS brings the Metro UI to PCs from Windows Phone, with a more finger-friendly, Live Tile based interface for touch use and general multitasking, and the regular desktop underneath if needed. Microsoft may limit ARM Windows 8 tablets only to that Metro UI, and apps that support it.

Carrier IQ

Carrier IQ maintains they summarize performance information to help improve the quality of a carrier customer experiences, but what if you do not want anyone else to have access to the sort of fine-grained data that Carrier IQ is capable of accessing? Here is how you can figure out if your phone is affected, and how to go about fixing things if it is.

Does your phone have Carrier IQ?

Eckhart original report has shown that Carrier IQ has been discovered on HTC and Samsung devices, and that CarrierIQ counts Sprint among their domestic carrier clients. AT&T also appears to use Carrier IQ on their devices: a member of the XDA-dev forums called AT&T and was told that Carrier IQ is indeed preloaded on the HTC Vivid. Other carriers, including Verizon, Vodafone, and O2 have all denied that they use Carrier IQ on their devices.

Nokia and RIM were also among the companies that Eckhart claimed CarrierIQ provided their "mobile intelligence" services to, but they have vociferously denied the connection. The Verge also reports that the three devices in Google Nexus line are free of the logging service, so Nexus devotees can rest easy.

What do I do about it?

Well, you could just live with it, but I will admit that it is not a terribly appealing option. iOS users who want to disable logging have it pretty easy here: chpwn believes that in iOS 5, CarrierIQ is enabled during the initial setup process if you opt-in to sending log back to Apple. Since that is the case, all it takes to disable Carrier IQ is to jump into Settings/About/Diagnostics & Usage, and change the setting to Do not send.

logging Checker

Uninstall Carrier IQ with the Logging Test app.

This is about as straightforward as the process gets: once you have installed the aforementioned app, pay the $1 for the Pro key in the Android Market. Once you have done that, the option to remove Carrier IQ will be unlocked in the app, although ExtremeTech notes that the process may not always be successful.

gsmarena 001 Vodafone UK fixes for the Samsung Galaxy S II GPS issues

The story of the Samsung Galaxy S II Vodafone UK and their GPS issues came to an end as the carrier quickly found the cause and issued a fix for the users. The customized firmware that was distributed with the Galaxy S II on Vodafone had some bugs that caused the GPS inside the smartphone to show not accurate locations of the device.

Vodafone acknowledged the issue last week and yesterday released a fix that should get rid of the problem.

Vodafone Comment on the Bug Solution: "To clarify, there's no device software update necessary to get GPS working, the issue was found to be on the server side. We have put a fix in place and your device should now be working as normal. If it's not working right away, removing the battery and rebooting your device will get it up and running."

The new screensaver feature is called "Dreams" and to activate it you have to dig a bit deeper in the OS itself, but it is not impossible as the video will demonstrate below. Apple said this was a glitch and it should not be interpreted as the company endorsing any side of that debate.

"Our customers want to use Siri to find out all types of information, and while it can find a lot, it does not always find what you want" said Natalie Kerris, a spokeswoman for Apple, to the New York Times. "These are not intentional omissions meant to offend anyone. It simply means that as we bring Siri from beta to a final product, we find places where we can do better, and we will in the coming weeks."

To be clear, the Galaxy Nexus does not initially support Adobe Flash Player 11.1 and AIR 3.1. Samsung and Google may not have released their fix for the Galaxy Nexus volume flaw yet, but that has not stopped the Android modding community from addressing the problem itself. A patch said to be the official release to address the problem which sees volume fluctuate when the 2G 900MHz band is used has been released, ahead of Samsung own schedule which is believed to have temporarily stopped shipments.

Details of Samsung fix are unclear, though according to retailers the company has recalled shipments of the Galaxy Nexus and intends to replace them with a fixed version. Thats been seen as an indication that the fault is a software one that can at least be addressed by a software patch though neither Samsung nor Google will say anything more than that they are working on it.

The fix requires that you unlock the bootloader of the Galaxy Nexus, but beyond that it is a case of punching in a few commands. It is worth noting that your phone will be wiped in the process, but if you have been plagued by the volume bug you probably will not begrudge that too much.

HTC issued an official statement, regarding the IPCom potential ban of the sales of their 3G products in Germany. On Friday the Taiwanese company withdrew its appeal against the court decision of 2009 to grant an injunction against the HTC 3G devices.

HTC full statement:

To clarify reports regarding IPCom patent litigation on the Commercial Times (Taiwan), Economic Daily News, etc. on November 27, 2011.

On November 25, 2011, HTC withdrew its appeal in the IPCom EP1186189 case, finding that the appeal had become redundant since the German Federal Patent Court had previously held the relevant claim of the patent to be invalid. IPCom’s original injunction covered only one HTC handset, which is now no longer sold in Germany. Furthermore, HTC has modified its implementation of the UMTS standards, so even in the unlikely case that the Mannheim court reinstates an injunction, it will have no impact on HTC’s sales in Germany. HTC hereby clarifies that this does not have any impact on HTC business in Germany.

The patent in question has to do with low-level 3G technologies that many consider absolutely essential. Not any more, at least in the UK, where the device has just appeared for pre-order on Sony online store for a whopping £499 ($771). Even by UK generally high prices that is quite a lot. In fact it is even more than the bigger Tablet S, which costs £349.

What you get for that kind of money is a unique dual display design that split the user interface into two parts. As you scroll across a webpage, for example, you can see is sliding across the two screens as if it were just one large single display. Each of the displays are 5.5-inch in size and have a resolution of 1024 x 400. This allows the device to fold in half like a spectacle-case and carried around in your pocket with ease.

Other than the interesting display arrangement you get a 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB internal memory with microSD card slot, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi with DLNA, GPS, 5 megapixel rear camera, VGA front camera, accelerometer, gyroscope, digital compass and Android 3.2 Honeycomb.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit

Just like Samsung did with Asphalt 6 HD couple of months back, they are now offering another car racing game Need for Speed Hot Pursuit for free. It goes for 6.99 USD on the Android Market but Galaxy S II users will be able to download the game for free from the Samsung Apps store.

However, unlike last time, the game is not available in all the regions but users can easily download the game with a workaround.

The easiest way is to head over to this XDA-Developers thread and download the APK file or if your phone is rooted, follow these simple instructions:

- Download Market Enabler from Android Market
- Change the Market region to UK, Germany or Italy
- Open Samsung Apps and then "Accept"
- You should see the game in the store, download it

GetJar

GetJar 3.5 BETA will be launching update notifications for Android apps allowing developers to notify their users when there is something new with their app.

For instance, users can be notified if there are new levels in a game, some new features are added, or simply bugs have been fixed. Additionally, GetJar suggests using updates as an engagement toolm like sending out an update can be a friendly reminder about an app that a user may have forgotten about.

HTC

We have just posted some news about an HTC smartphone called the HTC Ville. It is due out next April and it will feature Google Android 4.0 and HTC Sense 4.0 software.

Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be the first version of the Android operating system designed to work on both phones and tablets.

HTC Sense is designed to run on top of Android, offering a custom app launcher, home screen widgets, and a handful of additional apps. HTC also backs up some of your preferences and data online if you sign in with an HTC Sense account so HTC smartphone users often wind up using Google and HTC accounts on their devices.

In the early days of Android, HTC earned a reputation for making the operating system prettier and easier to use with its Sense software. But as Android has matured, Sense has earned a reputation as one of the reasons it takes HTC several months to release a software update after Google releases a new version of Android.

Undelete

The developer of many useful utilities Fahrbot Mobile launched Undelete for Android (BETA) the application can recover any type of deleted file from your memory card or internal storage. You will need to have root access in order for Undelete to work and even then you should not expect miracles. For instance, the chances are slim for recovering a file you deleted a year ago the app is best used with recently deleted files.

undelete

The Undelete application is said to come with fast scanning logic, and works with all types of files, including images, video, music, archives and binaries. However, only FAT is supported and on Tegra 2 devices, it can only work with files stored on the external SD card.

iPad2

Sharp has long been rumored to be a runner up as a major display supplier for Apple and now new reports suggest that the company has successfully won the bid and has already been supplying screens for Apple iPhones. Citing sources familiar with the matter, the WSJ reveals that Sharp will be supplying Apple next-gen iPads with LCD screens that are manufactured at Sharp Kameyama No. 2 plant in central Japan.

The source also claims that the Apple is investing in Sharp Japanese manufacturing facilities. Although no investment figure was divulged, we have heard rumors from analysts previously that Apple planned to invest $1 billion. The move is part of Apple efforts to work with multiple component makers to ensure sufficient supply of parts for its iPhones and iPads.

The next most powerful Android device on earth is now available for pre-order from Best Buy, that being the Asus Transformer Prime, an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor toting 10.1-inch Honeycomb tablet.

This device is available for pre order in two forms: one with a gray back, the other with a champagne back. Both models have 32GB of data storage built-in with a microSD card slot to expand by an additional 32GB if you wish. They have also got the official champagne-colored keyboard dock and a mystery portable dock which we must assume is the gray-colored keyboard dock, both up for 149.99 USD and at pre-order status as well.

Windows 8

Microsoft Windows 8 will be out on fall 2012, but security researchers has already found a way to exploit the platform. They created a Windows 8 bootkit that can bypass the User Account Control using just 14KB of exploit code. It is said to be the first proof-of-concept to find a vulnerability in Windows 8 by a simple code that will force restarting your PC, Demo Video Below!

The exploit works on the current Windows 8 developer preview version, allowing a hacker to run command prompts under the SYSTEM account once exploited. It bypasses the User Account Control completely and does not prompt the end user. This small .exe file can exploit Windows XP, Vista, and 7 and Windows Server 2003.
