As far as third-party retro handhelds are concerned, AYANEO makes some of the best hardware available on the market, and the brand recently expanded its offerings with the new AYANEO Pocket DS, which as you can guess from the name comes with a dual-screen design similar to Nintendo’s older line of DS handheld consoles.
IN a recent video, AYANEO outlined several specs of the Pocket DS, which features some pretty impressive hardware features. Currently avialable via Indiegogo, the handheld features a 7-inch top screen with an OLED panel, 1920 x 1080 resolution, and up to 800 nits of brightness and a 165Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, the bottom display comes with an LCD screen with a more basic 1024 x 768 resolution and 550 nits of brightness.
The hinge on the Pocket DS comes with a 180-degree angle, while the handheld itself will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 chipset. AYANEO says that it’s designed the device with a pretty capable cooling system, which includes a dedicated cooling fan, copper heatsink, and cooling fins. It does run on Android 13 which is pretty old at this point, although this has always been something that we’ve seen on dedicated handhelds.
Other details include motion controls, WiFi and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity, expandable micro SD storage, and a pretty large 8,000 mAh battery. With all that being said though, AYANEO still hasn’t revealed specific info about a possible release date and pricing, so interested buyers will have to wait a bit further for more details.
