Handheld gaming console brand AYANEO is no stranger to trying out tons—and we mean tons—of different approaches to dedicated gaming handheld systems, and its latest effort in particular is a much-welcome throwback to the earlier days of gaming smartphones. We’re of course talking about the AYANEO Pocket Play, which has gone up on Kickstarter and is looking to be a promising endeavour.
Based on the marketing images, it’s clear that the Pocket Play takes a similar approach to Sony’s long-gone Xperia Play, which was one of the earliest dedicated gaming Android phones on the market. it features a slide-out design with a full set of controls tucked underneath a touchscreen, and it even features shoulder buttons on the sides of the phone.

That being said, the Pocket Play sets itself form other AYANEO products being that it is the brand’s first phone, a big leap from the rest of its hardware lineup which mostly consists of gaming handhelds. At this point in time however, AYANEO has not mentioned any hardware specifications or pricing details, but we have to admit that the device’s design looks sleek and clean overall.
