Samsung’s AI detection scam feature is finally coming to more Galaxy phones

Scam calls aren’t going away. If anything, they’ve gotten harder to spot as AI makes them sound more convincing. Samsung brought Google’s Gemini-powered Scam Detection to the Galaxy S26 in February. Now it looks like the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 are next.

Android Authority dug through version 217.0.895016164 of the Phone by Google public beta app. They found model numbers for all three of Samsung’s 2026 foldables buried in the Scam Detection code. That covers the Z Fold 8 (SM-F976), the Z Flip 8 (SM-F776), and the Wide Fold variant (SM-F971). Regional variants also show up, covering global, US carrier-locked, US unlocked, Canada, and several other markets. One detail worth flagging: the expected global variant for the Flip 8, SM-F776B, is notably absent from the list. Android Authority couldn’t confirm whether that’s an oversight or intentional.

What Scam Detection Actually Does

Google’s Scam Detection uses on-device Gemini AI to monitor calls in real time. If it picks up conversation patterns that match known scam tactics, it alerts you with a notification, sound, and vibration. Nothing leaves your device. Samsung has been building toward this kind of protection for a while. The Gemini-powered version that debuted on the S26 is a step up from earlier efforts.

The feature runs through the Samsung Phone app, not Google’s dialer. That’s how Samsung worked around foldables using a different default calling app. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is already Samsung’s biggest foldable push in years. Landing Galaxy Z Fold 8 scam detection out of the box would be a solid addition to its launch package. The Z Flip 8 is expected alongside it. If SM-F776B’s absence is just an oversight, both phones should be covered.

Both foldables are expected to launch in July. Samsung hasn’t confirmed any of this, so treat the model number findings as a strong signal, not a done deal.
