While there’s always been a lot of potential, Google’s relationship with tablets has always been a rocky one, as we’ve seen with countless Nexus and Pixel devices in the past. Even the company’s most “recent” Pixel Tablet from 2023 didn’t fare any better, and while Google did extend support for the device it looks like it’s finally gone from the market for good.
As reported by the folks over at 9to5Google, trying to view the Pixel Tablet on Google’s official online store will now redirect you to the homepage, although the device was available for purchase as late as August this year. That said however, you’ll no longer be able to purchase the tablet directly from Google, and the second-hand market will likely be the only option moving forward.
Launched back in 2023, the Pixel Tablet was unveiled alongside the Pixel 7a and featured Google’s Tensor G2 chip. Unlike most other Android tablets, Google included a dock with the Pixel Tablet, allowing it to function as a smart home display similar to the Nest line of devices. A sequel was also apparently planned, although Google opted to cancel it entirely, with no plans for a successor anytime soon.
As it stands, existing Pixel Tablet units in the wild will still receive system updates up until 2028, which should give owners a bit more time to use their devices without worrying about software support.
