Auto giant Mercedes-Benz recently announced that it’s entered into a partnership with NVIDIA, which serves as a major expansion of efforts to jointly develop next-generation automated driving systems. The collaboration also merges Mercedes-Benz’s leadership in vehicle safety and its proprietary MB.OS operating system with NVIDIA’s AI and computing technologies.
Under the expanded agreement, the MB.OS platform will integrate directly with NVIDIA’s Hyperion computing and sensor architecture for over-the-air updates and new driving functions. The partnership also uses NVIDIA’s Alpamayo Stack to power AI-driven reasoning for urban point-to-point assistance, active safety, and automated parking, while the NVIDIA Halos framework introduces a redundant secondary safety stack.
Together, these systems lay the technical foundation for future SAE Level 4 applications, including fully autonomous robolimousines. Ali Kani, Vice President of Automotive at NVIDIA comments:
High computing power gives vehicles the intelligence to understand their surroundings and handle complex driving situations. Mercedes-Benz brings the outstanding engineering expertise and safety standards that this transformation requires. Together, we are building on NVIDIA Hyperion to bring this intelligence and comprehensive full-stack security to the road and make autonomous driving a reality in everyday life.
In addition vehicle autonomy, Mercedes-Benz is scaling its use of NVIDIA technologies across its global manufacturing operations. The integration spans the MO360 digital production ecosystem, with advanced simulations and AI-based applications to drive greater efficiency, flexibility, and quality control throughout the production network.
