Google might be prepping its first official Qi2 charger. According to tipster Arsene Lupin, the company is working on a new Pixel Wireless Charger along with a Pixel-branded charger in Rock Candy (white). The latter isn’t that exciting, but the wireless one sounds more promising.

No photos were shared, but based on the description, this Pixel Wireless Charger could be a puck-style charger. Think MagSafe, but made by Google. It wouldn’t be a Pixel Stand replacement and it’s clearly not just another USB-C brick. This could be Google’s first magnetic Qi2-compatible accessory.

For context, the Pixel 9 series technically supports Qi2, but not fully. Google said the phone is compatible with Qi and Qi2 chargers but left out the magnets that make Qi2 unique. The company previously told Android Authority there were no real benefits to justify full adoption, so they stuck with regular Qi.

That’s why this charger feels forward-looking. It might not add much for the Pixel 9, but it could be made with the Pixel 10 in mind. Rumors suggest the Pixel 10 will support Qi2 properly, although users will still need a case with magnets to make it work. Unlike the iPhone, Google still isn’t building the magnets into the phone itself.

If true, this would be Google’s first official Qi2 charger. Hopefully, they’re not just dipping a toe into accessories again. The Pixel Tablet dock had potential but faded fast. Maybe this one sticks.
