The Google App Now Lets You Block Topics that You Don’t Like

Google recently confirmed that it’s rolling out a series of new personalization features across its Search, Discover, and Google News services, which will give users direct control over their feeds based on content preferences. Mrinalini Loew, General Manager at Google Search Ecosystem comments:

Whether you’re following big global headlines or exploring niche local interests, it should be easy to find the sources and topics that matter most to you. Today, we’re introducing new personalization features across Search, Discover, and Google News that give you even more control over your experience, while helping publishers build stronger, direct connections with their readers.

One major highlight of the update is a new interactive “Preferred Sources” button on participating websites, which instantly adds the publication as a preferred source across Google’s Top Stories, AI Overviews, and AI Mode. Google says that over 600,000 unique sources have already been selected through the feature, and publishers can access the embed code via Google Search Central documentation.

Google is also upgrading the Discover feed within the Google app, which will now come with conversational tuning tools via the three-dot menu. Users can type specific preferences to adjust their feed in real time.

Finally, Android users can now customize daily audio briefings in the Google News app by selecting specific topics, complete with direct source attribution and links to full articles.
