Motorola Atrix 4G users may be excited to hear that they may be receiving the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update sometime next month. Test builds have been sent out, and users can expect the update to hit through an over the air update.

The Tegra 2-toting handset will be updated to version 2.3.3 of the Android OS, and will receive the latest version of the Motoblur UI, which attempts to smooth out some of the mess that it is. When you are dealing with a heavily customized user interface like Motoblur, sometimes you may not even notice that you are on the new version of the OS, as the skin itself hides it. Luckily, Motorola has implemented some of the nice touches found in Gingerbread, and you will find things like the overscroll glowing effect you would find on stock Gingerbread. The updated version of Motoblur should bring a handful of enhancements as well, including a redone keyboard, tweaked applications and icons, enhanced camera software, and more.

While its still unknown, it may be a bit too soon to expect that the Gingerbread update will unlock the bootloader of the handset. Motorola has made promises that it will begin to unlock the bootloaders of its phones sometime in late 2011, and July is just barely past the mid-way point, so to expect an unlocked bootloader may be wishful thinking. Still, we certainly cannot say its not a possibility.

The long awaited Android 3.1 Honeycomb update is finally hitting the Motorola first and only tablet the XOOM. If you live outside the US, then you are lucky and you can update your device.

Xoom

The 3.1 update enables the microSD card support among other improvements and bug fixes. According to Motorola, we can expect changelogs for each region soon and some functionality may vary by regions. If you own a US XOOM, I guess you will have to wait a bit more for this update.

The Motorola Atrix 4G just got one step closer to Gingerbread, as early versions of the OTA update for the Gingerbread go for a test drive. This was hinted last month by Motorola VP of International Marketing, but now we are on the verge of getting an official release date.

According to the guys at BriefMobile, who have been testing an early build of the Gingerbread for the Atrix 4G, the update should hit devices some time in July with an over-the-air update.

Motorola has also made some changes to the Motoblur UI, such as iOS-looking icons docked at the bottom of the homescreens, smoother animations and overall performance boost. For AT&T users, sideloading of apps will also be enabled, due to recent changes of the company policy. Here are couple of screenshots to get a taste of whats coming for the Atrix 4G.

Xoom 2

An ad was posted on YouTube yesterday, and then later set to private view, which showed an unidentified Android Honeycomb tablet. It could very well be the next Motorola Xoom, considering that Verizon has been hyped up on all things Android lately, and Android-powered devices making up most of their smartphone and tablet selection. Their latest commercial leaves us wondering what they have coming next.

The video showed off a tablet that runs Honeycomb, has a very clean-looking front, and was running on Verizon network. The device closely resembles the previously released Motorola Xoom; the back has a similar-looking speaker, camera, plastic strip, and flash design as the honeycomb tablet, just not the same layout as the original. The device also lacks that big “M” logo that graced the center back of the Xoom.

That being said, the device could also be the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that is supposed to be hitting Verizon soon. The Tab 10.1 has the same thinness, vertical layout, and design, just not the plastic strip. However, the 10.1 has a much more premium design than this, which leaves me thinking this is the Motorola tablet. A newly designed Motorola Xoom would be nice since it would fix the tablets main issues. If you have ever held one, you will know that the camera position was sometimes inconvenient for taking pictures, and the tablet was oversized. Hopefully the Xoom 2 will be thinner, lighter, and come with better button layout. The Wi-Fi-only Xoom has been reduced to $499, which sounds like they are selling off the remaining stock.

The Chinese market is getting a lot of love from Motorola these days. Barely two weeks since thelaunch of the dual-everything Motorola XT882 droid, the tech giant officially announced the highly anticipated XT883/Milestone 3 Android smartphone for China Telecom CDMA network.

The Motorola Milestone 3 is one of the worst kept secrets from the company. It leaked in tutorial videos with Verizon branding, and was previewed before its official announcement.

The official press release confirms the specs of the phone which floated in rumor land for quite some time. The CPU is NVIDIA Tegra 2 and the screen is 4" with qHD resolution. There is a five-row, sliding QWERTY keyboard with a dedicated row for numbers on board. An 8MP camera with 1080p video recording capability graces the back of the phone, along with a front unit for video calls. There is 16GB of built in storage in the droid, which is expandable through a microSD card slot (up to 32GB supported). The Milestone 3 will ship with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
