Google Gemini just showed up in Samsung’s kitchen

You’ve probably seen Gemini pop up on Galaxy phones, Samsung watches, and even cars. The kitchen is next. Samsung has pushed a software update to select Bespoke AI Refrigerator Family Hub models in the US, and it brings Gemini-powered food recognition to the fridge’s built-in camera system for the first time.

The update started rolling out May 11 for Samsung Bespoke AI refrigerator models with 32-inch displays. According to Samsung, the fridge can now identify a much wider range of groceries than before. That includes branded packaged goods, which it reads using optical character recognition on product labels. It also learns which items you go through regularly and sends restocking alerts through the SmartThings app. Owners of 9-inch display models will get the update later this year.

A smarter Bixby, too

Bixby gets an overhaul in the same update. Instead of rigid voice commands, it now handles more natural back-and-forth conversations. Samsung’s own example: ask it to make round ice for your drink. Bixby activates Sphere Ice mode without you needing to know the menu path. You can also set routines conversationally. Tell it to cool the fridge when outdoor temps get high, and Bixby will ask for your preferred threshold, then set up the automation itself.

The Now Brief widget panel also gets more personal. The fridge display can surface recipe suggestions based on what’s actually inside, show trending recipes from Samsung Food, and log your most-used ingredients from the past week. Voice ID support means different household members each get their own personalized info on-screen.

Google and Samsung have been deepening their AI partnership across devices for a while now, and Gemini has already made it onto Samsung’s watches. What makes the Samsung Bespoke AI refrigerator update stand out is that it’s an over-the-network push. Existing owners get all of this without buying anything new. Samsung says expansion to additional global markets will follow throughout 2026.
