Apple’s rumored iPhone 17 Air could be the thinnest iPhone the company has ever made, and now we’re getting a clearer picture of what that actually looks like. A new leak from Naver tipster yeux1122 shows the iPhone 17 Air battery sitting side by side with the iPhone 17 Pro’s battery. The difference is dramatic. The Air’s battery is just 2.49mm thick including the metal casing, which is nearly half the thickness of the Pro’s.
This isn’t just about size. The iPhone 17 Air is also said to feature a smaller 2,900mAh capacity battery. In comparison, the Galaxy S25 Edge is expected to pack a 3,900mAh cell. And while we still don’t know the Pro’s battery capacity, rumors suggest the Pro Max model could reach 5,000mAh.

Apple hasn’t gone below the 3,000mAh mark since the iPhone 13. But that might not be a bad thing here. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to measure around 5.5mm thick and weigh roughly 145 grams, making it one of the lightest and slimmest iPhones ever made. It also replaces the Plus model this year.
To help offset the smaller capacity, Apple is reportedly using high-density battery tech. TDK is preparing shipments of its silicon-anode batteries, which could debut with the iPhone 17 Air. If true, this would improve efficiency and allow the phone to last longer than its size suggests.
Apple might still offer a backup plan. There are rumors of an optional battery case launching alongside the Air, giving users a way to extend usage when needed without sacrificing the thin profile full-time. The iPhone 17 lineup is expected to launch this September.
