A buzz went around the tech world recently when Apple announced it was not going to release the iPhone SE 4 after all. The reason for this sudden about turn is a simple one; there wasn’t much demand. If Apple isn’t going to make money releasing a new phone, why would it bother?
So where does that leave previous incarnations of the SE? Is it still worth buying them even though there won’t be any upgrades to move to? We’ve got some ideas; read on to find out more.
You’ll Save Money
If there is one thing that can be said about the most recent SE third generation that was released in 2022, it’s that it’s far less expensive than its larger cousins. So if you want an iPhone but your budget won’t stretch to the more traditional model like the iPhone 13, for example, you can get some of the Apple goodness for a lower price with the SE.
Note we said ‘some’. That’s because with a reduced price comes reduced functionality and features. For example, it only has one camera and the screen is just 4.7 inches. That said, it works, and if you’re looking to save money, it could be a good option.
You’ll Save More Money With Android
It’s true that the iPhone SE is a cheaper version of the iPhone 13 or even 11. However, it’s not a cheap smartphone, and it will still set you back a good few hundred pounds. If you really want to save money but gain back all the features that the SE lost, it’s well worth considering an Android.

It Doesn’t Look Great

The iPhone SE has not moved on. It’s essentially an iPhone 6 with a smaller screen. You Can’t Upgrade
As we mentioned at the start of this piece, the iPhone SE 4 has been cancelled due to lack of demand. This in itself shows that the current version of the phone probably isn’t a great option for most people – there has to be issues with it if people aren’t buying it – but it also means you won’t be able to upgrade. Even if you love the phone, there will come a time when it no longer functions how you need it to, and then you’ll be stuck trying to upgrade because you’ll have to opt for the more expensive, larger iPhone.
If you always like to have the latest design, that’s just not going to cut it.
