The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is Samsung’s first foldable that doesn’t cost a fortune

Samsung just did what we’ve been asking for: it launched a foldable phone that doesn’t come with flagship pricing. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE starts at $899, finally bringing the foldable form factor into semi-reasonable territory. And yes, it’s still very much a Galaxy Flip.

You get the same basic clamshell design, the same Android 16 experience, and a 50MP main camera. What you lose are the bells and whistles: the cover screen is smaller than the Flip 7’s 4.1-inch panel, and there’s no DeX support or high refresh rate outer display. But for $200 less, it still folds, and it still works like a modern phone.

It lands right in the middle of Motorola’s 2025 Razr lineup. The regular Razr 2025 starts at $699 and comes with a larger 6.9-inch foldable screen and a surprisingly sharp 32MP selfie camera, but its Dimensity 7400X chip isn’t going to win any speed tests. The Razr+ 2025 is faster with Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, but it’ll cost you around $991.

The Flip 7 FE doesn’t beat Motorola on cover screen size or display brightness, but it does hold its own in key areas. Samsung’s software support is typically stronger, its cameras tend to process better photos, and you still get AI perks like Circle to Search and Now Bar. For a first “budget” foldable, it’s solid.

No, it’s not cheap. But it’s cheaper, and for Samsung foldables, that’s progress. If you’ve been on the fence about flipping into the foldable world, the Z Flip 7 FE might be the best way in.
